Does anyone know if there is anyone collecting details of vehicles with problematic multitronic issues?

Local garages here in Hong Kong all know of the multitronic problems and have repaired high numbers. Common enough for them to comment about the expensive repairs that are required to fix the problem. I wonder how big the problem is in the UK and what Audi AG considers high enough numbers before a recall is issued? My A4 has the TCM fault code after only 36,000miles!!! My W140 S class travelled for 175,000miles without a single problem on the gearbox.

I wonder if these “premature failures” are caused by Audi AG preparing for strict 2015 EU requirements which require 95% recyclable. Cars as of 2003 are already 85% recyclable and 95% recoverable. I just hope Audi are not recycling or using cheap parts in the gearbox ECU. A part which is so smart it hides INSIDE the gearbox and also submerged in oil!

Would owners with problems be willing to state out their car model/year, gearbox type and current miles? We should group together and voice out our demands as we did not pay out large sums of money to buy a car to repair! I for one cannot accept how poor and unreliable my first Audi has been. Whatever happened to the “vorsprung durch technik”? Does this mean parts will fail just after your warranty has expired which is the case in for several owners.

Please feel free to comment

Thanks
Jim

Hi A4jim,

Have you considered writing in to the BBC,s Watchdog program, I remember some time ago there was a problem with the instrument cluster on Audi TT,s , as soon as it went on the watchdog program Audi recalled and repaired them all..

Not actually based in UK but HK but thanks for comments.

Already written to Audi AG who have confirmed receipt of my letter. I will update as soon as I have their official reply to my problem.

Thanks

Actually that's a bloody good idea.....now all we need is someone arguing with Audi at the moment to kick it off (and Watchdog to be on the TV of course).

I'm happy - they are replacing mine - but still - 3yrs, 24k miles.....that's just crap.

Cheers,
Dan.

Hi

I guess your car being 3yrs is still within the warranty period?

Still waiting for Audi AG to provide official reply.

Will people here be willing to list out their car details so other owners can use these as examples of Audi goodwill?

J

Quick update guys.

My local and only dealer called me this morning and invited my car to have diagnostic check. This was their initial request at a charge of 100 pounds which will only show the same information on my vagcom reading, faulty TCM. After my complaint letter to both dealer and Audi AG, local dealer has waived the charge so I will book in a check asap.

Keep you boys posted to my progress if any.

Jim

Mine's under an Audi Approved warranty but the first work (hydraulic control unit/valve body and input shaft) was done just pre-3 years. That's less than 12k miles ago and it's going in for a complete new box week after next......

Not impressed - the next car probably won't be an Audi - and I'm pretty sure it won't be German at all....

Happy to list details, but it's been a lot of work to get the complete box changed - however I've listeded to Crasher's advice and have stuck to my guns on this one. It's cost Audi £2600 for first set of works and now well over £5000 for the replacement box and all the associated messing around.....car only cost 15k......

Cheers,
Dan.

Quick update after the local dealer checked the car.

They confirm the TCM needs to be replaced as there is no speed signal from gearbox. I already told them this before when I vagcom the car but they need to use own machine to confirm.

What was shocking is they comment that the "valve body" should be changed. I asked what this part was and informed its the pump for the gearbox!? Does anyone know if this is a must or just Audi trying to milk more money from poor owners? Quoted GBP3,000 for parts and labour in Hong Kong. Service rep states Audi does not offer goodwill for cars over 3yrs old, mines 4yrs.

Still considering to remove the TCM to clean all sensors and try my luck before replacing this expensive part.

What do you guys think? I will still follow up with Audi AG but what do you think my chances are of any goodwill guys?

Thanks

Jim
