Hi - Any help advice would be appreciated...

I have a 2001 Passat, recently (a couple of months ago) the clutch pedal dropped about 50%. I can pull it up with my foot but this is pointless because it drops back down. The clutch still works and I can change gear - however, it is becoming more and more difficult to engage in gears - i have to almost force it in occasionally... especially when cold??

Also, sometimes in waiting at traffic lights in first, it feels as if the clutch is trying to bite slightly - which suggests it is not depressed enough...?

Any ideas what may have happened? Is this a common problem, Do i need a bleed...? If I can sort this out myself, it would be preferably than visiting the belly of the beast (a cowboy garage!).

Thanks!!!:1zhelp:

Stating the obvious here but;

Look at the pedal, in particular the overcentre / return spring.

or

Bleed the clutch

or

Replace the clutch.

mine dropped to within 2 inches from the carpet after towing my caravan , i pumped up the pedal for about 10 minutes , it rose back up and has been ok for the last 4 months.

when you press the pedal down slip your foot off and let the pedal kinda bang back up on its own steam . do it long enough to get the pedal back up - worked for me.

as for looking stupid , thats what mirrors are for.

hello i have the same fault if its not air in the system then it might be same fault as mine...
i had the pedal sticking halfway and hard to select gears use to use my foot to bring pedal bak up. dealer changed maste slavefywheel and clutch but same thing happened..... ended up goin else where and was told it was a faulty gear box casing or housing which was changed and that fix the pedal and gear selections for 7 weeks im back to sqaure 1:mad:

i think its a complete new gearbox i need. (it was all under warranty)
