passat heater problem

Recently had a recon engine. thats ok. BUT I have oily smoke from the heater when switched on. Any ideas whats causing this?

possibly engine oil etc spilled onto exhaust manifold on fitting . try removing the engine cover and give it a good " gunking" degreaser and a steam clean . when the engine is cold.

Or could be heater matrix has a leak or is bust, and is dripping antifreeze or something
