Using Bio Diesel in A4 2.5 tdi

Hi, this is my first ever posting on any forum about any subject ever!!

I wondered if anyone has had experience of running Bio Diesel on the 2.5 engine, I'm looking at buying one, 2002-2004 model, 163 version tiptronic / multitronic.

I heard that many were made with factory fitted bio diesel components to run on 100% rapeseed based bio, but not all, but unless it has these bio friendly parts is it still worth the risk? Does anyone have any knowledge or experience of this and know what to look out for when viewing potential cars?

I am planning to make my own Bio diesel, so ideally would like to run it on 100% bio diesel or at least 50/50 with regular diesel.

Hi there,

I have the 2.0 TDi and it states in the manual and on the filler cap that BioDiesel is not to be used under any circumstances!
I don't know about any that were made to take BioDiesel but unless it specifically states this I wouldn't risk trying it. The PD engine runs at a higher pressure than normal diesels and I think this is why BioDiesel wouldn't work. That is only my guess, but I'm sure someone more knowledgable will be able to expand on it for you.

Hi Paul,

Audi have just told me that for 2.5 engine def between 2001 and up to Chassis 8E5A4000000 (I think that's @2004/2005) many were fitted with the upgraded parts, they didn't say what parts (I guess silicone seals and that kind of thing rather than rubber). Apparantly as not all were done, I'd have to ring them each time I look at a car to give the Chassis number!

I'd still appreciate any knowledge or experience from others on this topic.

Hi Adrian,

The first thing I would check is inside the filler cap of each car you check as you may be lucky and have a sticker on it which states it is suitable for BioDiesel.

i have a 2005 model and spoke to gilders audi and was told it not to use bio diesel with pd injectors on,did not know the 2.5tdi was a pd engine.
i also have a 2000 passat pd115 and have used bio diesel in that without any problems

Hi, I have now purchased an A4 2.5Tdi multritronic 2002 model, I again checked chassis with Audi UK who confirmed that this model had the bio diesel parts fitted at factory, only thing I must be aware of is reduced service intervals, i.e. replace oil and especially filter more often.

So I will experiment soon with making my own bio diesel!!
