hello, i bought my missus a 52 plate gof gti 1.8 turbo, everything was ok until the epc light started to come on intermittantly.I took it to a vw specialist , he checked the codes, all of which related to intermittant faults giving him not a lot to go on, he changed the throttle body and various sensors, cheched the wiring for faults, removed race foot pedals which could have been interfearing with the pedal sensors and reset the system... great for a few days ...then on came the light along with the abs and the cat light...and another more serious thing occured, when the brakes were applied the pedal did not respond in the normal mannor,it remained solid and did not go down, resulting in no brakes. This would occur once every so often without no prior warning. The car has been back about 8 times and been reset and the lights are still coming on. The other day the vacuum sensor unit by the washer bottle started pulsating when the engine was turned off, this has never happened again,it even ran when disconected. Every time there is a problem we take it straight to the mechanic, and of course when we get there , hes only 3 miles away from our house, the car is running perfectly, making us look like right muppets. So far this problem has cost me just under£700, and were no further forward. I was led to believe that german cars were the best , I also own a BMW M3 EVO convertable, which needed a new clutch and flywheel costing me £1100. I aso have a Dodge Ram 5.7ltr Hemi, which has never let me down, drives like a dream and never misses a beat , it just goes to show you cant beat simple technology and cubes! Anyway back to the golf, has anyone else experienced this problem and if so could you please advise me what route to take and what parts to replace, as prior to this problem the golf was a pleasure to drive. Thanks
