Hi guys, first off thanks for all the help you've given me in the past, hopefully this will be easy to answer...

I am looking to get cruise control fitted to my 01 A4 1.9 TDi B6.
I've looked about the forum and have a pretty good idea of what i need, but i'm just wanting to check that i have it right.

As far as DIS goes, my dash will read out my MPG, journey times etc - does this mean that i have the DIS option already and if so is there much else i need to get apart from the stalk for the cruise? I keep reading about multifunction steering wheels, hoe how do i know if i have one? I realise that might be a really dumb question, but just want to be sure before forking out on kit i don't need.

I've attached a picture of my dash, it's not that clear in the pic, but i have the control switch on the end of the wiper stalk - does that mean i have multifunction steering wheel???

Also, i have seen what i think i need on www.vagparts.com (http://www.vagparts.com) and ive attached a picture below. The description is as follows:

Cruise control kit multi-function
The Genuine Audi A4 cruise control kit supplied with new column stalk and full Audi installation instructions. To fit all model from 2001 - 2008 with multi-function steering wheel picture for illustration only no ecu is supplied with this kit. Once fitted this will need to be coded to the ECU and you will need to exchange the lower column trim which we can supply separately.

Order number: 8E0054690

If i get this part, along with the new trim for under the steering wheel, do i need anything else? I know it will still need to be coded, but are there any other parts i need?

Thanks so much for your help!

If you have a button the end of the wiper stalk that scrolss through MPG, distance, journey time etc etc then you already have the DIS feature.

If you have buttons and/or scroll wheels ON your steering wheel then its multi-function, If that pic you posted is your steering wheel then its not multifunction. A switch/button on the end of the wiper stalk is totally unrelated to multifunction steering wheels.

That Vagparts kit picture seems to contain the steering ECU - you will probably need this as well but give vag-parts your VIN number and they can check your exact requirements on their computer system.

if this a b6 and you have multi function steering wheel you will have Q column electrics and you only need to fit the cruise switch and lower couling (double check with audi parts pr numbers)and code steering column electrics and enable engine ecu login.Switch £25 from audi, why you lot on here keep buying from vag parts is beyond me when audi supply next day and bloody cheaper,i do alot of cruise retro fit and only use audi or vw main dealers. Its bloody raining and im wet sorry

Ok, thanks for that, i'll drop them a line or email and see how i get on.
You confirmed what i thought, but thought it best to just check here first.
I have DIS but no multifunction steering wheel.
Although that picture seems to contain the ECU as well, the description says it is just for illustration purposes, i can't seem to find it in the vagparts catalogue but i am presuming that they will be able to supply that too. If not, can you recommend anywhere that would be best to get it from?

Thanks a million!

No problems, hope you dry off soon!

I have given up with my local audi dealer as they told me that a retro-fit cruise control was not possible under any circumstances... I lost faith in them after that.
Also, it seems that the dealers have got a reputation for charging rediculous amounts for work etc and therefore i don't think people trust them for a reliable price, but if it is same price or cheaper i have no trouble getting my stuff from them...

Thanks for your advice, much appreciated.

I got mine from my local dealer, I guess it depends on the knowledge of the guy you speak to. Mine cost about £60 for the switch and the lower plastic cowling. I didnt need the steering ECU but I think they are around the £100 mark.

All simple to fit, there are a few threads on here with some pictures/explanations in.

fair comment and im ashamed of this audi parts department.
Your column electrics should be part number 8E0 953 549 N only 8E0 953 549 S needs to be replaced for cruise actiation and you can easily check by enetering 16 steering column electrics via vag com to confirm your part number

Address 16: Steering wheel Labels: 8E0-953-549.lbl
Part No: 8E0 953 549 Q
Component: Lenksáulenmodul 0601
Coding: 04101
Shop #: WSC 06335

No fault code found.

I have worked for audi for meny years and i get slashed off with the parts departments who dont or cant offer first class service and im not supprised you seek alternative parts suppliers if this is the service you recive, again please accept my apology for this poor service and name and shame them.Back to getting wet.
