There are several threads re this item - I had an oil change done at Autocentres as the service warning came on. Buggers forgot to cancel the warning so picked up the info here. Did it about 20 secs.......
Check older threads for the exact detail.

Unfortunately, doing that only brings up this thread alone!:o
I'm in the same position and found this thread, which I'm about to try:

Yes, successfully did mine last night in fact. Actions as follows:
Switch off ignition
depress trip-meter knob
switch on ignition, still holding trip-knob in
release trip knob
turn clock adjustment knob below rev counter for a few seconds
( "service in XXXX miles" message disappears)
switch off ignition.
Switch ignition back on to check indicator message doesn't appear.
Worked fine on mine last night: '02 Passat 130 TDi Sport. :biglaugh:

Mine is saying "SERVICE NOW" at the moment, but both the car instruction manual and a Haynes manual say that the service indicator will either show "OIL" or "01" for different types of service. Where does "SERVICE NOW" fit into this?

I've never seen "oil" or "01" on the computer - it only ever says "SERVICE NOW" which pops up on the dashboard computer when you start the car and bleeps to remind you - disappearing after about 5 / 6 secs after starting the engine.....
It is this "SERVICE NOW" message that this technique removes. However, you would know which service is due, as you know from the service book record which service was done at the last service, and at what mileage, and what's due now..... If not, your main dealer / local specialist would cetainly know what needs to be done! Sounds like it's due for something right now....

No idea, sorry, but could always try it. There are a few other posts which mention this, so if you search for 'service reset' on this forum and go through the threads that come up, you should find the answer.
I suspect it might be similar to, if not the same as, the procedure mentioned above, but don't quote me...or blame me if it doesn't work!
