It's 4 years OR 60000 miles, whichever comes soonest.
Hi,
VW now recommend 4 years or 60,000 miles.
I asked the same question at my local VW Specialist who said they had never had a Passat in with a snapped belt under 60,000 but it was my choice.
I got them to change mine at 4 years and 39,000 miles on the clock, i did not want to take the risk of destroying the engine.
Your choice mate but use a good VW Independant Specialist and at least you will save money on main dealer prices.
Make sure you get a new water pump with metal impellers fitted, and all the auxillary drive belts fitted at the same time as the belt and adjuster.
All done for approx £275.00.

I think it is normal for EGR valves to leak a small amount of oil out of the holes in the side. Many people change them unnecesarily for this reason. Last time I checked, my car had a thin film of oil on. As long as it's only a small amount I wouldn't worry about it.
