Hi I have a 2004 audi a4, and the door handle covers rattle on two of the handles. Im specifically talking about the painted covers that clamp over the actual handle on the outside of the car to open the door...I peeked under the handle and it appear they clamp on, is there anyway to tighten this...thanks so much

Lock the doors and then lift the handle (on the outside of the car) and you should see a metal bracket, using a credit card slide the bracket towards the back of the car. Make sure you dont scratch the paintwork when doing this though.

Hi

I've had the exact same problem with my 2002 A4 - although it was just the drivers door on my car. I tried the credit card fix that is suggested above and it definitely works. My handle cover is starting to loosen up again so I will be giving it the credit card treatment again shortly.

On a related subject - has anyone any experience of a very slightly dropped door on their car? If so what can be done to rectify this? I've been told getting hold of the bottom of the door and yanking it upwards, is this a good idea?

Any suggestions appreciated.

Weejp, thats funny that you mention that, my older audi which was a 2001 a4 was a used car and had exactly what you are describing...a drooping door...and yes grabbing the bottom and LIGHTLY giving it a couple tugs upwards will help it;

weird - what a coincidence. I'm not having much luck with getting it line up perfectly although its not that noticable TBH.

Tried the CC things yet? It does work.:biglaugh:

Hi WeeJP,

If the door is drooping I would think that one of the hinges has broken hence the angle its sitting at.

Check the hinges and see if there is any movement there and if so get the hinge bolt replaced before it puts too much strain on the top one!!

Hi

The hinges are all fine, I tried the lifting of the door upwards to see if it helped and it to be fair it is a bit better. If I'm being honest its barely noticable.

The rattly door handle cover was a pain - but thanks to the CC trick mentioned on this forum that is now a thing of the past - hurrah!!!

Cheers. JP:beerchug:

Hi,

If lifting the door has made a difference then I would be amazed if one of your hinges hasn't broken!!
Where do you think the movement is coming from when you lift the door?? If it's not the hinge then there is something else wrong matey!!
A broken hinge pin will still sit in the guide and move around but if you open the door and get someone to lift it whilst you watch the hinge you'll see the door part move inside the A-Pillar part!!

If something is amiss with the hinge then I can't see it.
Anyway, we're thinking of changing the car soon, can't justify running a diesel anymore.

Huh? I take it you don't do a lot of miles??

Even so I would have thought the amount you'll lose on the car and then have to pay out to get a petrol will out weigh the miniscule saving yo'll get buying marginally cheaper fuel??

You are correct, we don't do high mileage anymore. In fact it must be somewhere in the region of 8,000 a year. So not high at all.

I have a figure in mind, if I don't get it then like you say it won't be worth selling - I guess we'll just have to see.

Mind you with the door falling off and scratched grey trim, nobody will want it, despite the comprehensive FSH and the fact I have kept it as tidy as possible. :o

Yikes,

Wish I could only do 8000 a year!!

I know what you mean, it sucks that you spend all your time and money looking after a car but noone seems to appreciate as much as you do!!
Definately stick to your figure man there's nothing worse than selling for less than you want to find out you buy a car thats worse than what you started with ;)

I have a 06 audi a4 avant and I don't see any metal brackets under the door cover, when I pull the door handle up when the doors are closed.

There is only plastic over there - I can't see any metallic brackets over there.

Maybe 06 model year cars' door handles are different than 01 ones'?

Can anyone tell me the part number for the plastic colour coded handle cover as there was one missing from my car when i bought it. The OSF if that makes a difference.

Many many thanks

Hey, I am driving a B7 A4 and I dont see any stainless steel too.
Has anyone tried to resolve the rattling issue on a 05-08 A4?

TIA
