I gave my car in for some body work and when it came back I found the boot will not lock. You can close it and because of the weight it does not jump up and down but it is not shut :zx11:

Now I know what the garage is going to say so I took the lining of to see how the lock works.

When you pull on the boot release by the plate number a lever pushes another lever with a black rubber end, this thing is supposed to come back when you release the button but it does not. If i push it back then shut the boot it will lock.

Looks like a spring or something is missing which is why it don't come back to the locking position.

Anyone had this or now what I can do, a rubber band crossed my mind but I don't think so

As you suspected, inside the lock there should be a small spring, attached to the locking lever (with the black rubber end) at one end and a hook inside the lock at the other end.
If you can see no spring attached to the locking lever it may have come off the lever and be loose inside the lock or come off completely and be rolling around inside your boot.

I had a similar problem but I could see the spring hanging loose from the lever; the end inside the lock had come off the hook. I had to get a small rod inside the lock and guide it back on. To do this you have to unbolt the lock from the boot lid and remove the black plastic cover to get inside but it's straightforward enough.

Maz, I trust you have it fixed by now but I hope this helps someone.

Maz, I have just fixed my boot mech, Thanks to your good advise, many thanks. The little brass spring had come off. I used 2 X small screwdrivers to relocate over hook, worked a treat, looks like I owe you a beer, saved me loads.

I have got all the standard screws of but need a star headed screw driver for the last 2 in the handle  i can hear something rattling around in there. Hopefully tomorrow I will have some time to get it sorted but I am glad to hear it can be fixed :o

The 2 screws on the inside of the grab handles are 6 point torx, you will knack the screws if you go at it with anything else, Draper £2.98
