Golf 4 turbo problem

I have a 1999 Golf 4 110bhp TDi which has just had the turbo changed and the inter cooler cleaned after the old turbo had a massive oil leak. The problem is that before and after the work the power from the turbo is intermittent. Some days it drives superbly (and I love it !!!!!!!!) but on other days it seems to 'cough' in that the power from the turbo stops, for just a second or two, then cuts back in as if fully turned on in an instant!!!

My local mechanic is not a VW specialist (Although he was Rolls Royce trained|) and he keeps just cleaning and fiddling with the car but has not fixed the problem.

Any ideas as to the fault?

Does anyone recommend a VW garage or mechanic within reach of Cardiff that I can take my car to?????

When I drive the car and the fault is present there is no indication on the dashboard of a engine fault!

A fault code read can be done by somebody with VAG-COM or at any decent independent garage, or even VW themselves.

Try the VAG-COM section of this forum, there could be somebody in your area willing to help you.
