View Full Version : 2.0 Tdi 143 vs 2.0 Tdi 170

Is there anything physically different between the two cars (uprated parts etc) or is the power difference all from tweaking the engine management system?

If it's just tweaking, has anybody chipped their 143 yet?

I like the idea of the ST3 but I'm a but worried that with the normal tuning they do a customised remap up to what they think the car can handle, whereas with the ST3 it's just a set power increase.

Has anybody bought an ST3 for a B8, and is it any good?

Do you flash back to standard for services etc?

I'm looking to get the 170 early next year - from all my research it is only an engine management change - I don't think you even get the split-twin exhaust like you do on the B7

Why the big delay on the 170bhp model? A different engine or a marketing ploy?

Apparently from other threads there had been problems with the 170 B7 so that delayed the launch - it was supposed to be available by now - but it is usual for new models to be drip fed in in this way.

But wasn't the 170 B7 a totally new engine over the 2.0TDI 140? I think that was the case anyway with my A3 Sportback 140 vs 170.

But I don't think this is a new engine in regards to the 143ps - although there is a press release on the audi website now announcing the 170 - and the emissions are low for an engine of that power so perhaps it was getting that right?
