:o Hi
2004 Estate Highline TDi PD - 130
I've fitted the 'dipped' headlights with Super Brilliance Xenon H7 bulbs
from Halfords.
No problem.
However the 'main' beam bulbs are posing a problem.
Does anyone know how to fit these?
I've removed the black egg shape hard plastic cover. Even with a mirror it is hard to see, but it looks like there are two brass Torx bolts (star shape), do these have to come off? (I'll have to buy a set! )
If so, do you then turn the bulb housing anti clockwise?
I ask because I do not want to put undue pressure on the housing.
If it's stubborn I can turn hard with confidence.
I've seen the link that others have posted about how to fit - this link
DOES NOT show how to fit the main beam.
I've Googled - no joy anywhere.
Any help would really be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

I did mine, but struggle to remember, but there were no screws of any type. I think you remember which way up the bulb/holder is, turn the bulb holder 1/3rd of a turn and withdraw it. You then can take the bulb out. Does this sound right? Putting it back is harder, make sure it is not a 1/3rd of a turn out when offering back up as it will go in, but be crooked and jam.

If you follow this link and copy the pdf then you will have the full instructions plus photographs

Thanks Snapdragon and Richard.
Unfortunately, the pdf link doesn't cover the 2004 - it's similar, but the picture shows a light grey plastic 'grip' holder - mine does not.
I'll have to order a Torx set and go for it.

The PDF is similar to mine, but there is another big thing in the main beam aperture with Y-shaped raised ridges in the pdf, this is not on mine, so must be because it has american marker lights or something.
My main beam is like the picture reflected in the CD, a square holder that you can feel, but not see so easily. I am surprised if the 2004 is different as it looks identical from the front and is sold 2000-2005 in parts lists. e.g.

Hi Just a quick tip when you finally suss out how to fit your replacement bulbs and the retaining clip do not push too hard when you insert the bulb.
It is possible to actually detach the whole adjustable light unit from the main housing and once this happens you then have to replace the whole headlight. I did this myself on my last passat trying to fit the retaining clip and its nearly impossible to refit the two assemblies. :aargh4:
Its just a warning be patient and take your time.

Good tip, very true, seems to affect all similar Hella headlights, e.g. Vauxhalls, not a VW Problem, but Hella.
