Hello there i have a 04 Plate Passat Saloon over the last few days the breaks warning light has been comming up this happens normally when i am driving and not even breaking when i swich off and get out of the car i hear a hissing sound from near the break servo. I think that my problem is that a vacume hose has a leak but i cant find it. I have had the plastic cover off and had a look but everything is so cramped in there and i cant feel anything. Is there a common place where this leak can be and what do you guys think of my problem. Any help will be great thank you Kind regards Steve.
Oh yes my passat has 66K miles on and i have checked the breaks all is ok.

Two unconnected issues I think.

The hissing upon switching off is quite normal, it is the pressure in the aircon system equalising between the high and low pressure sides. Nothing to worry about. Try running the car in ECON and see if it does it when you switch off.

The wear indicator is probably just doing its job. Have you taken the wheels off and had a look at the pads? There should still be a fair bit of meat left on the pads even when the wear light comes on. Also check the plugs and the wires coming out of the pads, sometimes they can break or the connection in the plug can get corroded.

Oh right ok that makes sence as the Air Con Refill Points are there. I will take the wheels off and check them in that case and see what i find thank you for that hopefully it is the pads then. Just Seems strange that it happens when i am driving on the A1 and not using my breaks. Thanks again i will have a look in the morning Kind Regards Steve.

Check the brake fluid level aswell as this can trigger the warning light too.
