Hi all,

Just bought a 1994 2.8E Coupe Quattro and was wondering where I could get a reasonably priced sporty back box to unleash that lovely V6 sound?

Cheers

You should be able to fit any back box with a bit of fiddling & making a connector to attach different diameters of pipe.
Why don't you do the whole exhaust? There's a huge silencer in the middle of the system, so if a raucous soundtrack is what you're after, just the back box may not make much difference, & won't make any difference to performance. I couldn't find a made to measure system for a coupe, other than for the S2, but there are other options.
I've got a '94 coupe 2.6 with a full Jetex system (custom build parts range) in aluminised steel rather than stainless steel. This is a little cheaper, but also gives a less tinny sound than stainless. It's a 3" diameter from the down pipes back with two silencers & has a high-flow stainless steel 'sports cat' to suit the diameter. It was surprising what a difference it made, the engine seemed 'torquier' (is that a real word?:o) & altogether more eager & the sound is amazing! It can be a little boomy inside, so I may fit an extra silencer, but it's not too loud outside, just deep & burbly at low revs & almost like a mad ripple when revved up. When I picked it up, the guy who built it said with a beaming smile "it sounds great, it sounds like an S4 or something!" That's debatable, but it certainly sounds good.
Pretty much the only problem with it is that I've got Koni suspension fitted so with the lower ride height & the increased diameter of the bore it can catch on the rear axle beam. My car is FWD & not Quattro, so I don't know if this would be an issue, your car will be totally different to mine between the rear wheels.
Have a look here for more info about the Jetex range: www.jetex.co.uk (http://www.jetex.co.uk)
Another alternative is Powerflow. They custom build every system specifically for the car in question, & apparently it's no more expensive. Their website is: www.powerflowexhausts.net (http://www.powerflowexhausts.net)
