Folks - can someone help put my mind at ease?
I have a 2002 VW with a standard Gamma Radio / cassette and a standard VW 6cd changer in the dash.
I'm not fussed about changing the head unit (I just know that someone will steal it) but I want to connect my ipod up to the car.
I'm not bothered about losing the functionality of the CD changer but would rather keep it in the car than pay VW £35 for the proper "blanking hole" part.
I won't be hooking any of it up to an amp or anything exciting like that.
So - what's the best ipod kit to buy? There seems to be a fair few out there -
Official? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Genuine-VW-Ipod-Link-Adapter_W0QQitemZ150265827933QQcmdZViewItem?hash=i tem150265827933&_trkparms=72%3A12|39%3A1|65%3A12&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14
Unofficial but seems to maintain CD changer functionality...! http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Volkswagen-IPOD-Adapter-link-VW-Golf-Passat-GAMMA-BETA_W0QQitemZ160256657776QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item 160256657776&_trkparms=72%3A12|39%3A1|65%3A12&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14
The Connects2 item is what my local ICE man says he'd fit for £125 http://www.connects2.com/c2search.aspx?catID=27&manID=235&modID=558

Thanks

Depends what you want to be able to do with the ipod. Most of the kits I looked at meant that you weren't able to choose tracks/albums using the ipod and could only select from the 1st 6 playlists using the cd-changer controls on my stereo.

I wasn't happy with that, and in the end bought a sony cassette adapter which gives better quality than an FM transmitter at a cost of about £8.00.

I'd also recommended the USA-SPEC brand of ipod controllers which have a switch to let you choose how to use your ipod, but you lose the cd-changer. I've used them in previous cars and the quality and ease of installation are very good. There are several on ebay for about £65.00 shipped.

The final option is to sell the cd-changer and stereo on ebay for about £150.00 and then get a new stereo that does exactly what you want and buy a cubby tray off ebay for about a tenner to fill up the hole where the cd-changer used to live.
