How accurate are the MPG computers?

Hey guys,

Just wondering how accurate the MPG readings (current and average) tend to be in these. (Mine's a '99 A4 1.6 SE Estate) Need to see whether I've got to worry about counting miles & fuel accurately to get a figure..

Hi Mike,
Well I've got the A4 1.9 TDI 115ps, and on a full top up my remaining MPG will read roughly 640, this obviously fluctuates a bit as you drive from the garage, with the full tank of fuel sloshing around, I put in some fuel additive a month ago and the car has been hitting the 600+ mark regularly, like I said in another thread, personally I can't vouch for a petrol engine, but I've had the car for 3 years now and the the remaining MPG figure has always been to within 20-30 miles. What I do know is, and I really shouldn't have done it! that when my MPG remaining display reads 0 miles remaining, I did get to drive 23 miles to work, as it happened I had the car fully serviced a week after I did this.
