Hi,
I have an intermitent problem with my passat its a 52 plate 1.9 tdi 130, 95,000miles engine code is awx, the problem is that when lifting the accelerator pedal ie slowing down, the car runs on slightly as if the throttle is sticking, I know this car doent have a throttle and that it has a sensor in the accelerator pedal connected to the ecu. This problem does not occur when the car is stationary, but worringly the other day the idle speed of the car was , alternating between about 800 and 1000 rpm at a regular rate, its fine now, but there appears to be someting playing up. Does anyone have any ideas? Is it the pedal or something else. Any advise would be appreciated.

Cheers

It is most likely the brake pedal being pressed at the same time, or a faulty brake pedal sensor thinking it is.

If the revs are pressed with the brakes on, the revs won't go over 1200rpm and don't come down until after about 5 seconds.

I think it's an unhandled exception bug in the software rather than a feature.

Thanks for your advise, I will look into the brake pedal sensor, but what about the idle speed hunting between 800 and 1000rpm with the car stationary? the car seems only to show this problem after driving in busy traffic for a while, no problems from cold, which makes me think its something heat related within the engine or engine bay area perhaps a sensor on its way out and only showing the problem when hot?

Coolant temp sensor for the ECU is a common problem and cheap to replace to eliminate it.

thanks again, replacement of the coolant sensor seems logical, cheers.

I have repalaced the coolant temperature sensor, and done over 200 miles without the fault reoccuring, it was easy to change as well, apart from dropping the plastic clip into the engine bay, ( lots of swearing ) anyway thanks very much for the information.:beerchug:
