dont know much about cars but can i ask - is it possible for a turbo hose/pipe come loose under the bonnet making the turbo less effective?

if so could it be tightened by yourself by hand?

thanks!

Yes it's possible.

I believe the hoses are either held on with hose clips which have to be tightened with a screwdriver or with hose clamps which will need a set of pliers

Yes, and also for the hoses to split or perish over time

cheers! i definatley noticed one day that the turbo was under performing. u can still hear the woosh but it kicks in later and is softer (non punchy) and nowhere near as good as it should be.

i know it may not be a hose problem at all. but if it is, what is more likely - for it to come loose or split? the car is 5 years old. thanks.

either is as likely as the other.

at 5 years old, it may well just be some of the braided hosing that requires replacement, available from any good motor factors....

They're more likely to split but either/both may have happened. Make sure you inspect them carefully

i had a look but it could be mangled for all i know - looks fine to me.

i was reading something about 'turbo vanes' could this be part of my problem? is there anything I can do to try improve the turbo? can u clean them out yourself for instance? thanks!!

before attempting to destroy your turbo, you really ought to get the hoses checked, if it's a bit beyond your ability, pop into a local garage (specialist preferred) and get them to check it

just check them visually? im not good at cars but the monkies at my local garages are almost no better. specialist is miles off. :zx11:

wasnt gonna touch anything just looked around. dont even know where the turbo is to be honest. i was looking just above the engine looked at the rubber tubing - seemed fine, though what do i know!

would a vagcom thing work? do u need to assess it while on a rolling road? dont have a laptop but could get one.

boost seems to be kicking in later and later (like its slowly packing in) and with much less effect, but it was one day i noticed a sudden loss. almost "kicking" (gradually blends in) in at 3000 revs now where before it would proper punch in at 2000...
