hi,, i have a audi a4 97 unleaded, and when driving i can smell fuel in the car,,not very strong ,but enough to notice.

ive had my head under the bonnet and notice a short pipe coming of the head and into, what seems to be a 4 way spliter??
this pipe is split,,so i,ll be replacing that tommorow,(no idea if fuel related)
but there are no smell of fuel under bonnet,
if after driving i step out of car i can smell fuel around the car,

looking around the petrol tank there are a few stains, but no strong smell of fuel

could it be a leak somewhere or maybe running to rich, the car starts and drives fine (seems a bit juicey) but i hardly drive it atm,

any idea of why i smell fuel, any checks i can do,,before i have to visit a garage,
i really dont want the car to burst into flames whilst im in it o.0

anyway thanks for reading.........

Hi there
Not much to go on really, is it brought in by the cabin air system, try turning off supply or recirculating. Either way it should not be finding its way in past air dam seal. You need to find the source by tracing the lines from the tank to the engine bay and back. Exhaust fumes can be sucked in the rear air vends if the non return valves are damaged behind the rear bumper quarters. This is most noticeable with the windows open because it causes a depression in the cabin pressure. Sorry can't help more but let us know if you find the source.
