Seen this done on other forums. Think of it as a bar or cafe where you can come in and talk bolox or serious.
Check in and say good morning or whatever. It may work it may die a death :p
Good evening and goodnight.
I serviced my Passat today, just plugs, oil, oil filter and air filter. I swapped around my wheels front to back now the tyres are 6 months old to help spread the wear.
Got to change the front discs and pads soon as the discs look mighty thin.
Although I have owned it for over 20 months now I have never noticed the ordinary looking wires for HT leads. It does all look neat though.
Need to replace the gear lever and gator as the knob is getting sharp bits on :p, the chrome effect plastic has fractured and sliced my palm open the other week.
I also caught a low stone last year and damaged the black plastic inserts on the bumper. I repaired them with fibre glass and cable ties, but it looks like that too needs replacing.
Just to add insult it pi$$ed down with rain after I started, the garage is full of other stuff so I had to put the patio brolly up on the drive. A right **** my neighbours must of thought. We must be the Clampits as I have never seen anyone else in the neighbourhood doing their own car stuff.

morning all.
well, taking the "talking bolox" route, here's my weekend rundown.
friday evening i played golf at meyrick park in bournemouth. had a great round, finished 1 over par, played off 19 too, and i havent played in nearly 2 months! chuffed.
got a new windscreen in my cab on saturday. what a difference, i never realised just how many little chips etc there were in it.
my daughter was in a show at poole lighthouse on sat evening and then went on to have a mad one saturday night, crawled in at around 3am. what a night...
totally forgot to help out someone with my vagcom (sorry andy :( ). had a bbq, and chilled out for the rest of the day. great weekend.

Good morning, usually sign on early but a bit mad at work today. Still at least the weather has improved now we're back at work :p
My daughter is on work experience for two weeks. She fancies a medical career so we got her in at our local dentist. Seems she is enjoying it but they all go home for dinner, lock up the surgery. She is now just to far from home to make it back in the hour. Well she could walk home and back perhaps in the hour :D.
Hope we don't get too much rain over the next two weeks.

Supposed to be out at a car meet locally on Wednesday evening. Hopefully the weather will be good, though not holding my breath.
Nice idea.
I'd make it a sticky but we seem to have 230843405345 stickies already.
Busy today as I have a week off next week. Working my 20th day out of 22 today as well. :(

Need sleep! A troublesome night with the baby last night and I had to get up at 6AM. That comes on the back of another bad night the night before that and a rather busy weekend, I think I drove about 200 miles yesterday.
On the plus side, I saw Radiohead last night and they were great. At least, I thought they were, the bloke in front of me managed to fall asleep on his feet (he may have had some chemical 'assistance') which was fine until he fell backwards like a felled tree. He was, thankfully, unhurt though it was funny, particularly as his mate who was standing next to him managed not to see it at all.

They did a good mix; a couple from The Bends, 4-5 from OK Computer and a good mix of the other albums. The older stuff got the best reception:

You know the thing with German cars and golf clubs in the boot don't you ? ;)
Anyway, just returned from my son taking an introductory flying lesson at Barton Aerodrome. It was funny seeing him take off in an aeroplane... he's sixteen... wait till he gets a car !
EDIT: While waiting for the instructor to arrive, I got collared into replacing the headlight bulb in my sister's new 04 plate Renault Megane CC. She has just bought it, supposedly just MOT'd as well. However, I know a headlight bulb out is an MOT failiure, so I'm not sure what the story is with that.
In addition, the two front tyres are bald, and they're cracking, another MOT failiure. She's paid £8000 for the car, and it's an MOT failiure! I think she will be paying them a visit this week to get some cash back...

Cool, and yes you are half right. I don't think any of our products (semi-conductors) go in planes though. But don't quote me. I do work in Chadderton not far I guess from BAE Systems, or what was BAe. Don't think there is much left in Chadderton BAE Sys. now. Did have an interview there many years ago, in fact about 10 or 12.

I'm trying to decide where to go today. local or dartford.
I also have to arrange to get my car fixed, but also want it back before Sunday when I'm off to work at silverstone for the GP. Or do I arrange it for next week and accept that it won't look as good.
The other thing I'm deciding on is weather I get an S-Line rear bumper or the standard sport rear bumper as a replacement. I'm not sure if the S-line one looks a bit cheap with it's black plastic lower section. Although I could get it sprayed as well. hmmm
MalcQV

Fantastic working at the GP. Me I would forgo the car getting fixed (depending on what is being fixed of course).
Not sure what the S-line rear bumper looks like, but I hate the black stuff around the bottom of my Passat. Looks great when clean but soon gets scuffed and tatty looking IMHO.

It might be worth getting it MOT'd somewhere else and then taking the failure certificate to the garage and telling them you expect the new tires otherwise the MOT failure sheet is going to the DoT.

I think first she is going to confront them about it, and either get them to change the front tyres or pay for some. If they don't, I think that is the route she will take.

We're just hoping the college will open pathways into the right places, and see where it leads...

Hi All. First visit to the cafe. TG also have double standards. In the same episode 'Fridge Magnet' was waxing lyrical about the RS6, before they went on to the 'cockometer' thing
By the way, was talking to salesman at local Audi dealer about the RS6 (they ahve one in the showroom). I asked him, tongue in cheek, for a test drive. You have to make a down payment of £2500 for an unaccompanied test drive. Any foul play, mistreated in any way, you loose your money!!

Being a member does limit me playing other courses. I cant justify spending the money to play somewhere else when i've paid nearly £800 membership fee. As and when I get the time to play club league matches the that will allow me to play the away matches on other local courses. For free as well!

My neighbour is a pharmacist and was telling me the name of a generic brand you can buy for about £2.50 for 30 tablets. MoneySavingExpert.com was saying you can save a fortune doing this. I think our local Tesco charges £2.50 for a week's supply. I'll post the name of the generic brand and where you can get them from when I find out from him.
Two things to look forward to for me, I've just bought a new camera (waiting on Amazon to deliver) and I'll be going karting in August.

That's a wee bit shady! Mind you, the greys are little 5h1ts to the reds aren't they. Still wouldn't want to flatten one though. I ran over a frog once, felt like right git. I saw it hop into the middle of road when I was dropping a mate off one night. I had a look on the way back & its back end was part of the road unfortunately! :(
I've bumped a couple of birds as well. Shortly after one of those unfortunate occasions I said to a mate "I ran a bird over before, I feel like a right (beep)" his eyes widened & he looked shocked. He thought I meant a woman. Nice to see that gentlemen are so respectful in the way they converse about ladies! :D

the amount of times I've had to swerve around cats and young (hooded youths) on my estate is ridiculous, what's more annoying is, if any of my dogs or horses run out onto the road and cause an accident, I'm held responsible.... you try that one with a cat... the young 'scrotes' are obviously an exception, you ought to receive a medal for such remedial work.

When I was a kid a dog that we had (his name was Sandy) got knocked down & killed. The (self censored) who hit him made my parents pay for a new number plate on the front of his car because there was a crack in it.
I'd be more gutted about killing a dog than a bloody crack in my number plate!
Or am I just too soft? Would anyone demand a couple of quid from a grieving owner who's little mate you'd just squished?
On a more bizarre note, my brother ran a cow over once! It rolled up the bonnet of his rather lovely oak green mk2 Golf GTi Campaign edition, denting the hell out of it! The cow simply stood up, looked at him, snorted & ran off! :boggled:

There were at least two hares at Silverstone this weekend that got a little scare.
As for damage to a car caused by running over an animal. I guess it depends on the amount of damage. A number plate is just pathetic but if the damage was into the £100's then I may feel different as it is now illegal I believe for a dog to be loose (not on a lead) on the public highway.
When I was very young the dog we had was knocked over and killed (well put to slepp as his injuries were so bad)by a car but he used to chase the things.
A dog hit me once on the way to work. It ran out and head butted the front wing, me and my girlfriend (Mrs QV now) looked high and low for the dog (an Alsation I think) but he/she must of just carried on chasing the cat or squirrel :p
I know there is a thread about what is on your CD player but I can't be ***** to find it so I have Final Straw - Snow Patrol now and what a superb album. We have also just bought Coldplay's new one but not listened to it yet.
Subject change again :D. I changed the front brake pads (and discs) over the weekend on my Pasty. Now usually when it rains I used to get brake dust stuck all over the rim of my alloys, well now that seems to have stopped completely as they still look clean from the weekend. I bought my pads and brake discs from http://www.brakeparts.co.uk Highly recommend them too.

I strongly recommend you kerb the odd one. I quit for a few years, didn't smoke at all for at least two then started thinking the odd couple with a beer wouldn't hurt (back when you could smoke in pubs - probably wouldn't have bothered now!) but it's a slippery slope! I regret starting again, you don't even realise you're doing it, it's "I fancy a couple of smokes" so you buy a 10 pack. If there're any left in the morning you have one because you're a bit rough from the night before & your mouth tastes of poop. Then in the afternoon you're feeling a bit better so a smoke'll help soothe what remains of the roughness & then it quickly becomes it's a habit again even though you deny it! I reckon a lot of it is psychological because you associate them with good times & soothing/ feeling better.
As for curry, there's rarely not a good time to have one! :D
Although sometimes I prefer Chinese. Although I prefer Indian and Chinese to Thai, though that's not to say I don't like Thai! Hmmm... variety is the spice of life so they say!

Nearly, but not quite. It tends to kill you too. Not everyone, mind. Just most. The oldest woman in the world was a French lady, she died at about 115 or something astonishing like that! When did she quit smoking folks? About 100 years old! But you've got to pretty damned lucky not to at least get ill from it.

Maybe it took into account the splashing? If you think about all the rain drops fallling through the air, you're going to run into more of them, literally. They fall too quick to avoid, so the quicker you go, the more you run into. Well that's my theory anyway! :p

Alas, a man after my own heart!
My weekend will be spent being sulked at probably, was supposed to try & get the afternoon off but too much to do!
Of course, it's my fault, even though she only mentioned a few days ago that she was having Friday afternoon off! I've not had chance to ask my boss. That'd go down well asking for the afternoon off with no advance request when there's loads to do!
Not even had lunch, just popped on the forum because I'm in a crap mood & seeking amusement after arsey phone call.

Yep. ;)
I know it's going to be a working van etc and my father-in-law keeps going on questioning me about why I am going to make it look sweet when it's going to be carrying property repair stuff around all day, everyday. But I am one who thinks first impressions are really important. Would you trust somebody in your house to fit a kitchen or something who turns up in a Transit that's puffing smoke out and probably going to break down just around the corner, or somebody that turns up in a sign written van that is really tidy and more or less immaculate ?
Anyway, Hagis, now and again I get some work in Speke and around Liverpool, so you may see it one day !

Mrs. Dudey & I took Dudey Jr. to see Kung Fu panda on Saturday at the Odeon in Warrington. We were going to watch The Chronicles of (ba)Narnia but the bloody trafic was ram-a-dam-dingdong & we missed the start.
So we ate copious amounts at Little Frankies (italian-american restaurant) next door & caught the later showing (19:15, so still very Dudey Jr. friendly). Weird how things turn out, traffic frustrations gave us time for gastronic pleasures!
Good film with a good few chuckle-worthy moments! Ian McShane does the voice for the nasty pasty, but I thought it was Eddie Izzard! He doesn't sound like him normally, maybe I need my lug-holes syringing!

One went as I was using it normally, the mechanism refused to stay down.
Two days later, we had a new one. I turned it on for 3-4 minutes with no bread in to let the new toaster burning smell disappear and then put two pieces of bread in. I usually have three, so once they'd finished I put another piece in and then the mechanism popped up and wouldn't stay down again.
They need toasters that can handle man-size breakfast toast orders. The last toaster was some style-over-substance Italian thing. I'm waiting to see what toaster we get next.

says it's 175bhp and 0-60 in 8.9 - compared to my A3 it feels like 140bhp and 0-60 in 6-7 days. Just has no urgency, no oomph, no backbone.
Handling is also very suspect. Does not change direction without written warning.
Nice features:
Electronic sunshade in rear window - goes down when reversing.
Mirrors tilt slightly downwards when reversing.
has a visible speed warning and visible revs warning that can be set to wherever you want. I set the revs one so that it acts like a shift light. The visible warning is a small orange line that is just on the inside of the tacho numbers. SEE BELOW
All electronic seats and steering, mirrors and stereo set themselves whe you press the start button and all move out of the way when you stop and get out of the car.
has keyless entry and start.

Stinker! My coupe failed on emmissions last year, it turns out there was a small leak in the exhaust so the emmissions probe they shove up the pipe was reading too much oxygen. The leak was only discovered after I'd replaced the lambda sensors, which 'swear'ed me off a bit. Glad it wasn't the cat though, I'd not long since had an exhaust made using the Jetex custom build range including a big fat high-flow stainless steel cat that was about £350! I called the garage that did the exhaust convinced that it was the cat & they reckoned it was the lambda's (which my mate replaced, I wasn't going to give them more work & saved myself a few £). He took it down to the garage where he works & tested the emmissions & thay were still out! Back on to the garage that did the exhaust, they had a nosy, found the little leak, put it right & it sailed through! Was 'swear'ed off they didn't just have a look & basically wasted me about £100 for new lambda's.
:zx11:
I can't reccommend one of these fat-cats enough! It seems that it's cleaning up more 'swear' in the emmissions & the engine was noticable more torquey & gutsy after it was fitted, compared to original pea shooter!

Morning folks,
An update on the MX5. Two sensors have failed (I thought this was only a VAG thing), which leads me to believe that it is just a reliability problem we now have on cars due to stupid emissions crap - Thankyou all you swampy dicks. 1976 Ford Cortina MKIII never missed a beat in over 70k, they may have rusted like a rusty thing but they did keep going :p
Anyway about £95 to replace them and then a good Italian tune and hopefully it will pass emissions.

Can this thread be made a sticky? It's great because it's so non-specific. Pretty much all the threads break down into random waffle, which is fine, but this is the only one that's actually intended for it!
I love waffling. (No, there's no sneaky innuendo or insinuation there!)
Random exchange of info & opinion is what makes us human & is the glue of society. (sociological/anthropological observations are pretty much what make cafe's & 'cafe society' interesting!) Good architecture, art, literature, film etc. is based around people-watching & the interaction between them & creating a reaction from them. Culture & society is based on it. The practical uselessness of this thread is it's greatest strength.

When we bought our house, Mrs Hagis and I wanted to go on holiday and thought that a camping holiday in Cornwall would be a cheap one. The missus hadn't been camping for a while and wasn't too fussed about it, but we came to an understanding that for the last night we'd stay in a hotel.
We went, had a barney on the first night and ended up staying in hotels for the rest of the holiday, it cost a fortunte! Good holiday though.
Having the baby means that we're unlikely to go away this year. We might see if we can get a cottage in the Lakes for a week in the autumn.

Not that Fred was really bothered but Budd limped for a while so the big heavy git obviously squshed his leg a bit.
I said Fed didn't do it on purpose (which he didn't), then Mrs. Dudey started chuntering that I didn't see what happened, I came out with a sarcastic remark along the lines of "well he's obviously not savaged him & bit has leg off" & then she flipped her lid, slammed the door & stomped off upstairs!! The female mind, the TRUE enigma of the known universe! I find that the mrs will use ANY excuse to prune, pluck, pick and squeeze bits of me.(and not those bits, and there are no typos)
And she doesn't understand why it hurts so damn much.
She's moved onto the children now, and they can't run away. :D
it's as if they were born with my wife's finger up their nose or in their ear.

Ah, you're still there then? I was beginning to think you had an accident with pulling cables out & the like, maybe frazzled yourself in a boredom-busting experiment like wiring a USB cable into the mains or something like that!
If you find the madman pass on my regards! ;)

Bonjour mon ami, solitude banished!
You're obviously having a REALLY tough day! :p
At least your getting paid for it! If it's any consolation I'm having a 'swear' afternoon myself. So far Fred the doberman has managed to tread or roll or whatever on Budd the terrier which made him yelp really loud & bite Fred!
Dunno what she's doing, not seen her for half an hour or so. Best give breathing space me thinks!
Anyway, what wre you ACTUALLY supposed to be doing?
How do you know I'm not your boss! Fnar fnar...:p :booty:
Hmmm... I gather from your story that Fred is your dog and Budd belongs to your missus.

Unofficially! The amount of times I've had "your dogs done..." They're both great dogs, it winds her up that they'll do anything I tell them, yet they both pretty much ignore her, even when she yells at them.
Fnar fnar... :D
But they're OUR dogs officially.

Yelling at them will not help very much. Where a child "might" do what you want it to do because it's getting affraid when you yell at it, dogs and cats react somewhat different... They go and hide. Eventually they're going to ignore you altogether.
She needs to give them a treat each time they do something that she wants them to do. That'll teach them.

We've had a trainer round a few times, he pretty much said that. I get much more out of them by talking to them rather than yelling, & because I don't yell at them most of the time, when they do push their luck too much & provoke me into bellowing, they know bloody well that they're in trouble & they toe the line quickly!
Training a dog is pure bribery. Dogs are only marginally less greedy than goats, so keep a biscuit to hand & they soon learn that if they do as they're told there's grub in it for them!

Which reminds me of the time I was training one of my dogs (Guinness) to shake... erm... hands so to speak. Each time I asked him to give me his leg I gave him a biscuit. In the beginning we were just sitting there for a while (sometimes about 15 to 20 mins) while he was staring all around not really understanding what was expected from him... But once he understood that each time he gave me his leg he would get a biscuit in turn... he wouldn't stop anymore... He even tried to give me both his legs at once (the greedy git) :D

Not with both legs in one go... But he was also addicted to affection so even when he learned that there were no more biscuits to be had for "shaking legs" he still happily did it after that.
Was the most amazing dog I ever had and the perfect babysitter as well. Kids could hapily do whatever they wanted when we were out with the family... he would always keep a watchfull eye out for them. And when there was danger he either got them out or started barking to get the attention of the adults. Never tought him that and he didn't get any biscuits for looking after little kids, but he did it anyway...

What sort of dog was he? He sounds great. You speak of him in the past tense, as he passed away or is he back in Belgium?
My two are affection/ attention addicts! You can't fuss one without the other running over to butt in! The size difference makes it hilarious when they're both trying to clamber on me, but it's like an endurance test, I tend to get head butted by Fred & more delicate lower parts crushed by Budd! :crying:

Guinness was a labrador. So was my other dog Stella. I also had 3 cats which were called Wiskey, Ginn and Tonic (rep points to be earned for the first person who can spot the theme here...:biglaugh:)
Anyway, I do speak in the past tence of them as all have passed away. I brought all of them in and cared for them for a few years before I moved to the UK... and that was 11 years ago. When I left, my mum took care of all of them but they all passed away from old age. She ended up being the one that stood by all of them during their last moments. Caused her a lot of pain. I guess she'll never really forgive me for that... :(

It's still a stinger when they go, even if you've not seen them for ages. My old cat & dog still live with my parents in Devon (well, they're family pets, hence they didn't move out with me many moons ago!). We covered this a bit in another thread not long ago I think? Anyway, the cat, Sooty is 14 now! & Bob is a cross between a labrador & ridgeback & he's nearly 8. We had a cairn terrier, called Pepper, we got as a tiny puppy at the same time we got Sooty as a tiny kitten, but he died back in 2000 which was a gutter! He was a great little fella, you really got the impression he was doing stupid stuff to make you laugh! The cat went properly weird & withdrawn for a couple of weeks after Pepper died. Pepper's body had loads of scuffed up fur on his hip when we discovered he'd died, can only assume that the cat was frantically trying to wake him up, so he knew he'd died. It 'swear's me off when people go on about animals not being aware of such things & not having feelings. Yeah they don't think & feel like us, but they do think & feel! People who come out with that have either never had a pet or not spent nearly enough with it if they have!

Well... Guinness was the first dog we had. Got Stella after than and then I brought in two kittens (Ginn and Tonic). All 3 were taken care of - and practically raised - by Guinnes, so for a whole period after he died they kept on looking for him. I still remember that each time I went to visit my parent in Belgium, it took me a while before I could say hello to them because as soon as I opened the door I was covered with dogs and cats. However, I went to visit shortly after Guinness died hardly got any attention when I arrived. I could see that they were all wondering around the house looking for Guinness... It was spooky.

Evening. Looks like I missed Mr Head and Mr Fish.
We do not have any pets, well unless you include the fish, frogs and tadpoles. We both work so to get a dog, is we think a little unfair, my 15 year old really would like a dog too. Neither me or Mrs QV are cat lovers either.
Before I left home we had, had three dogs. The first a cross very clever and daft all at once, got killed chasing cars. I was only about 4 or 5 so it didn't bother me too much. Second one Sandy was a Yellow Lab, we had him for 13 years. He went the year I started work and it to was awful. He had been quite ill and doing very little. We had the RSPCA come around to put him to sleep and typically he was his normal self that day. I was 16 nearly 17 and in tears as I helped the vet carry his body into the car. So bad I had to tell my visiting pal to go.:o
Benji followed and I left him at home, he was a Golden Retriever and died about 9 years ago. My ma and pa decided three heart breaks were enough.
Today I replaced the Inlet Air Temp and Coolant Temp sensors in Mrs QV's car. Lost my ratchet and socket in the depths of the car. Found the socket caught on an undertray but because my ramps are at the M-i-L's I had to leave it. Found the ratchet almost in front of my eyes. Anyway took out and did a lap of the M60 (32miles appx) and then re-did the diag, that all came up clear so MOT re-test Tuesday. Found the socket, it is now near J22 on the M60 :p
That is the most I have ever driven the car and Mrs QV not being there and it requiring an Italian tune I had a great time, they red line at 7k and after 5k really comes alive, both vocally and performance wise.
Becky my 15 year old went out tonight with her pals for a chinese on their own! Dad's taxi brought them home, I guess this is the start of it now.:nervous:
we have pets. Low maintenance. Guinea pigs. Going away isn't a problem, they also have a holiday at the inlaws. They are cute little things, we have them in a routine, some fresh greens every morning. As soon as they hear the door open they squeak with excitement. They eat out our hands and sometimes we bring them in while we watch tv and they snuggle up in the warmth of my arms on my stomach. They like being talked to and investigating things.

I used to have guinee pigs years ago, they're cool little creatures! Our current menagerie doesn't stop with Dum & Dummer (Fred & Budd - god they can be stupid :D) We've also got 4 gerbils & 2 chinese dwarf hamsters! Animal grub & vet bills mean we have beans on toast as our one meal a day! :biglaugh: Nah, the dogs are insured, been caught out in the past to tune of many £100's!
I'm barely awake now & bid you all good night.

Up the Ferraris !
With F1 being a mainstay in the family, anybody who would have visited would have seen myself and Chris (my 16 year old son) going ape at Felipe Massa's inability to defend his position. Chris was telling me how he would have stayed right and blocked the entry to the corner rather than move to the centre of the race track etc. Gotta admit I was disappointed that Felipe gave in so easily.
On the subject of cats and dogs, my sister came round with the addition to the household, a chocolate brown labrador puppy called George. He is so cute and lazy it's rediculous. A proper dopey mayor.

Where's your datacentre? I'm sat in one in Normanton with the fantastic views of James Irlam's trucks to distract me.
BTW, why is Eddie Stobart buying up all the truck firms in the country, you can't go 5 minutes without seeing one of his wagons on the motorway.
BTBTW, I was convincing that James Irlam's truck used to drive out the depot, round the block and back in again, 'cos it was ages before i saw one apart from round here.
