Morning VAGgers. Tell you what it sure is busy on here, I always used to go straight to New posts after looking at threads I had contributed too first. I no longer have the time for new posts and just look in appropriate sections.
Do you not use the subscription menu in user CP?
It only brings up the threads that you have contributed to, (or subscribed to) and saves having to remember what you posted and where

Happy Birthday Malc, although it's a little late. :Blush2:
Paul, i spotted your A6 this evening as I was driving down the A34!
You are right, you have every 'reflective' wing mirrors!
Wahay! They do shine a fair bit... I'm wondering whether to keep them or get the sort of matte aluminium ones - funds permitting. ;)
They definately stand out those chrome mirrors... I like the spoiler myself ;)
I like the spoiler myself too. I always thought the rear end on the A6 Mk2 was slightly boring, but the spoiler has changed that. Hard to think the spoiler was only £17 plus paint and various treatments such as primer etc!
I saw 2 silver A6s parked together on somebody's drive in Gatley, they both had spoilers like mine. Glad to see others take pride in the car they drive, and refuse to be forced into the G-Wizz's that the Government would like to see.

Oh aye.
Mine needs washing, a polish and I still need to sort out that scar the wife put on the front bumper (offside).
All this is taking so much time to do, while customising my T5 at the same time. The A6 has had its bits and I'm running out of ideas as to what to add without spending a fortune, so now it's the T5's turn! :D

What a weekend. Ferrari can't get an F1 car to finish or at least in a decent position :(
My pal came to visit on Sunday as he had just replaced the alternator on his Charger. About 5 mins after leaving mine as I was about to clear my garden pond then wash the Pasty he phoned. His engine bay had caught fire on the East Lancs road, his car was on lane 1 (dual carriageway) and there were dumb *** (though I guess you don't expect parked cars there) not looking where they were going cars trying to rear end him. I stuck the Pasty a good few yards back with the hazards on and deployed my triangle :p What a difference that makes.
We managed push his car totally of the carriageway (it was half on half off after a previous motorist had stopped to help, before I got there).
Anyway it turns out the wire from the alternator to the battery acted like a fuse, we reckon the alternator has shorted to earth. Lucky as he had a fire extinguisher in the car. I am tonight off to replace his and buy two myself. One for Mrs QV's MX5 and one for my Pasty, which will also be used in the Mondy (maybe I will buy four :p).
I got money for the birthday this year and bought myself a new bike.
http://www.cyclesuk.com/img/X/430385.jpg
One of those ^
Put another 20 miles on it over the weekend taking the total to around 250. When things are costing so much, and everyone is moaning, nothing beats jumping on the bike and heading down to the seafront and hammering along the trails.
Pics (and maybe a video of the view) to follow tonight.
EDIT: Thread title changed :D

This vehicle is a Rover P6 3500 V8 automatic and has been modified and improved in the following way.
General Description
This is a 1975 model having covered around 4,400 miles since major works having been carried out. Total mileage is 96823 miles since new. Speedometer was replaced at 92423 miles. The V5 shows 2 previous owners. Lunar grey with black box pleated cloth interior. Structural condition is very good with no visible corrosion in the normal areas and still looks like new. Some body work corrosion is present around the front side light units, on the top of the right rear wing, edges of the front valance and around the edges of the left front door. Dissimilar metal corrosion is visible on the bonnet around the washer jets and badge. I have 4 good solid wings, left front door and front valance to go with this vehicle. The body and paint work is presentable and the interior is very presentable with only the normal wear visible to the driver’s seat. Apart from the wheels it looks standard; however it is more than capable of keeping up with modern traffic weighing around 1300kg with 178bhp at the rear wheels. That’s about the same power to weight ratio as a Focus ST.

To enable the engine bay to be wider so the preferred engine - a gas turbine unit - would fit.
They decided against this and fitted a four cylinder OHC engine, and then upgraded to the Buick 215 which later became known as the Rover V8

Don't think so, damaged ego, a few singe marks and lots of extinguisher powder.
There is a little more to it as he replaced the alternator but it was slightly different to the original but is off a Mopar probably of similar year . He needs to replace the cable between alternator and battery (with a fuse this time :)). Replace the cable to the starter and a couple to the rev counter that were next to the damaged wire. Hopefully after all this he will get power back.
He is looking at an upgrade kit now that uses modern Jap components with an installation kit. Until all this is complete he won't know for sure.

I must be ill, I don’t know why I did it-it is a mystery to me but I ask your forgiveness. Today, at approximately 5pm I was on a test drive with a customer (flippin car!) and approaching a junction when I slowed and allowed another vehicle out of a junction. All I can say is my senses must have been impaired, to allow myself to let a car of the devil out from a side road, I still can’t quite come to terms with what I have done, I mean-it is a written law of the road, “ thou shall not allow a BMW out of a junction”.

A BMW let me out of a junction the other day :aargh4:
I am now in a state of stunned shock which may remain with me for all time.
My immediate reaction was that I had accidentally and unknowingly dropped out of this state of consiousness, into a parallel universe, where things happened in a reverse like manner. People were born old and grew steadily younger, MPs were honest hardworking people, and councils encouraged the use of cars.
But, perhaps he just stalled it, or was driving it for someone else. Who knows.
All I know is that I am now scared to go outdoors on my own

On Saturday afternoon I was on my way to watch a local football match. While pulling out of the layby beside my house, I was about to pull out when some ignorant 8astard in a 'car of the devil' 520d estate simply carried on going and refused to let me out. The traffic had stopped! :zx11: You did all that to gain another 2 metres? Numpty!
And then, on the M60 (the same journey!) another clown in 520d estate (how odd? :p) cut me up ON THE SLIP ROAD doing about 85mph. Needless to say he had to stamp on the brake pedal quite hard about 600 yards down the road.
Nobody else annoyed me on that journey, just 'car of the devil' drivers!

I'm just online at the MEN Arena trying to book tickets for War of the Worlds in June. I've waited years for it to come back here and am 100% getting tickets.
They are priced at £55 each, which is fine, however, each ticket, they are charging £7.25 booking fee.
Have you ever heard anything so ridiculous!? Its not going to stop me booking them, but for the 2 tickets on the same transaction I'll be paying £14.50 booking fee! Why not just say that the tickets are £62.25 each?
Grrrrr...I hate hidden charges!
EDIT...... and they add £2.00 delivery charge!
So 2 tickets cost £126.50! :(
The other day I was cruising along as usual in my BMW coming onto one of my motorways, which was very busy with inferior cars.
First off, I couldn't believe that the volume of traffic DIDN'T slow down for me AT ALL as I came off the slip road! I had to squeeze into a barely big enough gap between two cars in order to get onto my motorway! (The driver of the car behind me did realise his mistake though and honked an apology to me with a long blast of his horn.)
Unbelievably, I had to do the same again before I could get to the BMW lane. (Why do underlings use this lane? Surely everyone knows it is for BMW drivers only?)
Anyway, once I was in the BMW lane and posing along at 110mph enjoying the adulation that the inferior car drivers were giving me, I noticed an inferior car ahead of me which was not only in the BMW lane of my motorway, but was driving at a ridiculous 70 mph!
Naturally, I got to within a foot or so of his rear bumper and flashed my headlights to remind him he shouldn't be in the BMW lane of my motorway and to get out of my way.
Of course, once he realised it was a BMW behind him, he did just that, but I could hardly believe it when he pulled straight back out behind me! He also tried to keep up with me but when he realised I would out-run him, he put on some blue lights in his front grill and urged me to get onto the hard shoulder so that he could congratulate me on my excellent car.
Needless to say, I was eager to oblige and when we had stopped, the man gave me a piece of paper confirming what I already knew - that my car goes fast!
Apparently he wants everyone to know what a superior car I have, so I had to take my driver's licence to a Police Station to be sent away to have some points put on! (They're not free points either - they're £20 each and I was only allowed 3.)
But the man at the Police Station said that because I drive a BMW, it won't be much longer before I earn the full 12 points, and then I won't even NEED a driving licence, so they will take it off me!
See, now THAT's the sort of respect you get when you buy and drive a BMW.

Nice but you forgot that you came upon a sign that told you your special BMW only lane was closing in 2 miles and by your Devil given right you exited your special lane only at the last possible moment before pulling in front of the car in the Volvo cruising lane which bowed to your superiority and applied emergency braking to allow you to enter the lane without any inconvenience to your evil self.

I like BMW's too! :p
It's the people driving them I normally have a problem with.
I have to admit though, the build quality of BMW's just isn't as good as an Audi!
*waits to be stoned* :(
They are the ugliest thing on the road. Have you seen the front of them? And that awful super shiny silvery-chromey dash inserts? Minging!
There is only one car manufacturer I despise more than “The Car Manufacturer to the Devil” and that is Ferrari. http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/36/36_6_3.gif
I shall have to disagree. :p

Morning all
Went to Reading yesterday. 5 of us in a Golf GT Tdi - not pleasant.
On the way, I looked out of the window into a field and saw a huge black cat shaped animal jumping around! The other 4 in the car didnt believe me but I know what I saw!
And then on the way back, some woman decided she wanted to threaten to chuck herself off the bridge at J15 of the M6 - so sat on there for ages.
But to top it all off, the client we went to pitch to, just wasnt interested in hearing what we said. Quite disheartening after THEY invited US!

I'm going into the illustration business, hopefully successfully targeting computer games developers and publishers to create artwork and packaging materials for them. I'm basically all set up to start the business so apart from spending a few hundred quid on company registration, getting the stationary done and do some advertising, I have no additional costs. So in these uncertain times, its not much of a risk. And if I can set up a company like that and keep it afloat in these uncertain times, I'm certainly will be doing well once the whole economy is starting to recover.
Besides, computer gaming is the immediate future for entertainment (I hope), because with Joe Blogs monthly budget getting squeezed to almost 0, I reckon more and more people will be looking into online gaming for their entertainment. Because of the replay value, its almost the cheapest form of entertainment available to them. And people need to escape from from time to time from all that is happening around them do they? It can't be all working, worrying and no play...

All the best to Mr Desertfish, I know what its like having recently set up my own property maintenance business.
And on the Alonso thing, I would not like to see Alonso in a Ferrari. For years in Schumi's era the Ferrari team was built around teamwork, high morale and determination. Those 3 bought the huge success in the early 2000s. I cannot see Alonso being able to add that to the team.
I would rather see some young blood at Ferrari in future, either Kubica or Vettel for me, possibly even Timo Glock.

If I had to have one (and honestly, it wouldn't be a long conversation if this one was on offer) I'd go for either;
M5 (E28) from around the late 80s - if it had to be tuned, then the Alpina B10 version would make me dribble.

Modern Beemers then a 6 series, though the front is ugly they look superb in profile and go like stink.

To enable the engine bay to be wider so the preferred engine - a gas turbine unit - would fit.
They decided against this and fitted a four cylinder OHC engine, and then upgraded to the Buick 215 which later became known as the Rover V8

Probably the reason why VAG is not looking into it is because as long as its dry, a RWD is a lot of fun. As soon as its getting wet they are absolutely dangerous to drive. How many people have died in car accidents in the wet with RWD cars... I remember in the early 80's there were quite a few of the top football players who wrapped their cars around lampposts or trees. The cars went to the scrap heap and their drivers ended up on the grave yard... And what was common about all these accidents? They were all RWD cars (i.e. Porsche or Beemers) and all accidents happedned in the wet...
Its easy for a bunch of "I think I'm hilarious" TV presenters to state that you need to have a RWD to be a petrol head. I ain't got anything against Top Gear, but the kinda talk they come up with from time to time is suitable only if you're going to take your car on tracks or if you like to do doughnuts on Tesco's carpark on a sunday afternoon... But if I want to give my car some welly in public traffic I'd much more prefer a 4WD...

I don't think RWD was droped just because they have different handling to front wheel drive, its got as more to do with cost as front wheel drive cars are easier to make, less complex and give more room to the passenger cabin.
I'm sure half the reasons footballers wrapped their cars round trees is through inexperence in a powerfull car and not just the rear wheels are driven. Front wheel drives have a nice habbit of being self correcting which is great for the normal motorist, but in the end a rear wheel drive car can carry more spped through a corner than a front wheel drive...but as you point out it needs skill to achive it ;)

with the fwd frees up internal space, not so with most of the audis and vw's with longitudal engines driving the front wheels. clarkson knocked audi's for having all the weight in front of the front wheels, i certainly have no problem in my passat even with the d engine up front

I think with RWD in the wet they can be a handful, but as Rob says in the right hands they are far superior to FWD and far more fun IMHO of course. The reason manufacturers make cars FWD is purely down to cost, don't think for one minute it is for your safety and besides I mentioned it here the other day mine lost traction to the point it would hardly move from standstill, they are far from perfect.
Another thing with FWD is understeer, I know it is supposed to be easier to control but when those front wheels go wide and light I simply **** myself.

The only way a Coopers S handles better then a RS2000, is when the Cooper is being driven by the better driver.
Match the pair up with equally skilled drivers, and a RS2000 will show a Cooper S a clean set of heels, over most surfaces.

********!
The only way a Coopers S handles better then a RS2000, is when the Cooper is being driven by the better driver.
Match the pair up with equally skilled drivers, and a RS2000 will show a Cooper S a clean set of heels, over most surfaces.
Don't sit on the fence, really tell him what you think.

I still have a rapid Mk1 and Mk2, if You mean Golf's and not Fords.

Terribly sorry old bean, I should have said i was on about old Fords and not old Dub's (although I too have had a few Mk1 & Mk2 golfs):D

Hehe... still a few people around with some sense... Maybe we should start our own forum. Something to do with Vdubs maybe... (erm... hang on a minute...Something doesn't seem right with that statement but I can't put my finger on it...)
I have an Audi, that's what is wrong with it. :biglaugh:
Anyway on the FWD/RWD/4WD thing, my A6 handles like its on rails! It's FWD with 130bhp and big fat 235/45/17 Bridgestone Potenzas (on the front) and Michelin Pilot Primacys on the back. And the Sport suspension is a dream on A and B roads (providing the roads are of good quality! ;)). It's like a big go-kart!
I've not had a car for a while that handles as well as the A6, but I am looking for a RWD older Toyota Supra as a few of you might know. But having just bought the Octavia that's gone on the backburner. :(

I could get a Supra for £1,000 but an S4 would be about 10x that. :(
Wishful thinking though. :D

:) Didn't realise they were that cheap these days! Not bad price at all! The S3 is slightly cheaper, why not one of them? :p

S3s aren't that cheap either... and they're not RWD. :D
I want a proper Supra, not the modern chav Supra.
I'd buy one, possibly both of the following two and restore them to their former glory:

They are a git in the wet!! In the dry it loves corners and you can literally chuck it into them - in the wet, I find myself being attacked by all sorts of FWD things (including A3s and Golfs!)
and 1400cc fiestas :biglaugh:
drove an rx8 at bruntinthorpe and loved it, it was dry :beerchug: i drove the mx5 and beat my mate in the rx8 though, better driver i guess:biglaugh:
got to chuck the mx5 round the go kart track and got a 27.13, the 'pro' race driver that set the time to beat got a 27.05, think i was 3rd!!

It's broken too.
Some clown has put some 6 litres too much oil in it! It's already had £3k worth of parts and labour spent on it at Skoda by the previous owner, but I've got a few ideas about how to fix her already.
I take it you could build an Octavia standing upside down? :biglaugh:
