Hi everyone,

Just signed up today.I drive a 96 1.9Tdi Passat estate,nearly 190000 miles and mechanically it`s pretty good.I`ve had it about a year.
Couple of things annoying me,is the heating system supposed to be this bad?It takes forever to get up to temperature.
And the cabin electrics..3 electric windows and electric sunroof don`t work. The night lights all workon these so I`m assuming power is getting to them.Is it just old age?
I hope you all know the cotton bud cure for the air mass meter.

Welcome :beerchug:.
My Passat is a different year to yours so cannot help much. I will say that the heater in mine warms up quicker than any previous car I have owned.

Diesels dont put that much heat into the cooling system compared with the petrol engines and the fact that yours takes ages to heat indicates that it works as it should. If you dont get enough cabin heat, i would check blocked air mixing flaps or a blocked polen filter. Problems you have with the central locking may be regarded to a faulty pump or kinked/split vacuum hoses or a bad CCM controler. The CCM gets damaged when the drains located under the battery and master brake cylinder gets blocked and water sips into the car. Check if the carpet is wet on the passenger side or if there is water standing into the battery compartiment(under front windscreen wipers). The carpet and sound deadening is quite thick and the CCM module is fitted on the floor and such the conectors gets corroded. Audi ussualy replace entire CCM module+ some cabling/conectors+ new carpet= over 800 pounds. Ussualy a good clean might do the trick, otherwise a new module might be needed and breakers yards is a good place to start with ! Hope this helps.
