Apologies if its been covered before but couldn't find a relevant post.

Ive recently acquired a '98 a4 tdi avant. I've noticed that it seems very keen on following the camber of the road. I've a dodgy right arm and a couple of hours on the motorway leave it aching pulling against any camber.

What I've check/done.

1 Tracking - twice.
2 Replaced track rod ends (LHS sloppy, RHS tight - seals gone both side) - blow torch required :-)
3 Looked at the (in)famous front suspension arms. Couldn't see or feel any play by putting fingers across bushes and having someone try and move the road wheel.

Its seriously annoying me to the point I want my clapped out 10 year old diesel corsa back.

What to check now ?

Thanks in advance

Hi fuggle

It must be bad if your hankering after your old corsa! I recently replaced my front tyres (old P6000 well worn shoulders) with new Matadors. There is less grip, if I am honest but the car is much less keen to follow cambers. If your tyres are worn on the shoulders from hi speed cornering it might be worth a try. Is the tendency to pull noticeable in both directions if not a four wheel alignment might tell if there are crash damage issues. But tyres do have a big effect on handling especially mixes of tyres front to rear as well as on each axle, try shuffling them front to rear etc. Good luck and don't do anything rash!

Hi robinwells

Thanks for the hint- P6000 on the front - not looking to bad actually, a little feathered on the outside edge- Almost new Goodrich "G force profiler" (sounds like a tyre aimed at the boy racers:Blush:). I'll try swapping them round anyway as its a no cost option.

The pull does seem to be camber related, not alignment. Drive along the crown or an obvious flat bit of road - no problem.
