Golf vs A3 - Boot Space

Is there much difference in the boot sizes between the Golf and A3? my father-in-law is considering getting an A3 but I seem to have it in my head that they have less boot space.

a3 sportback has less boot space than the golf.

the golf 3dr and 5 dr have the same boot space wheras the a3 3dr has a bigger boot than the a3 sportback.
