Hello folks, hopefully you can help me. I have an 05 A4 2.0TDi S-line with only 27K miles on the clock. I was driving home last night when the oil light has came on.
I have looked at the service history and it is set up for long life service. It also says 505.01 or something but when I went to Halfords this morning I couldn't find this number on any of teh bottles. The ones I looked at were 0W/30, 5W/40 and 10W/40!!
What I am looking for is advice on what the best oil is and can I just throw it in or should I drain the sump and refill from new or will this mean I also have to change the filters as well?

Hi, you need to get the correct oil for the car and it isn't that cheap. The warning beep indicates that you are on min. oil. When it was last serviced (at an Audi garage I presume), they normally give you a 1 ltr bottle to 'top up' between services.
There is also a difference between long and short service oil type. If your car is still under some kind of warranty you should put the correct oil in, however the manual does state you can put up to half a litre of good quality oil for diesel engine in until you obtain the 'correct' one.
Sorry, I don't have access to the correct codes but someone else on teh board may be able to post this?
Hope this helps
Mark

Hi
It took me some time to find the info on the correct oil to use in my 2006 s-line. For the long life service you need oil which is 507 00 approved. I went for Castrol Edge 5W30 4 litre from Halfords at a rip off price of £43.99. Hope that is of some help.

You dont have to buy from Audi, Eurocarparts have the correct oil made by Fuchs which is the original fill from the factory actually.
