Hi,
My father-in-law has a 1997 Audi A4 estate with a 2.6 petrol engine. He has recently had trouble with it ticking over very fast when it is cold (1400 rpm). He took it to a garage (not Audi dealer) and they plugged in a diagnostic computer but found no faults. They have cleaned up the throttle body which was apparently very dirty and fitted a new battery as his had a dead cell. However the fault remains, does anyone know if there is a common complaint with these?
The garage have suggested he renew the temp sensor because it s quite cheap but I feel they are maybe just guessing. If guessing is the game I would guess at either the airflow meter or perhaps even the lambda sensor.
Anyone with better ideas than that I would love to hear from you as he does not have enough money to just replace everything and hope to repair it by accident. Thanks.
