how do i know if i have aircon?

I have a 2nd hand golf mk5 tdi 1.9 and have no idea if there is aircon. it certainly doesnt get very cold but there is an econ button on the dash...help

If you have an Econ button then I would say you do have air con as the Econ button stops the air con unit from producing colder than outside air.
If you are not getting very cold air even on the lowest setting then I would say that you need to get your system re-gassed. Don't go for the cheap cans out of Halfords your better off getting either the dealer or a reputable garage to re-gass the unit for you.

excellent stuff Paul. thanks for hte help. It looks as though I have aircon (no climate control) that needs a bit of re-gassing. it was fine over the spring months but just can't cope with the "giddy" heights of 20c we are getting in scotland at the moment.

It needs a service anyway so I will get it re-gassed when I book it in.

I know, a whole 20c!! We had 24 in Aberdeen the other day, surprised my car didn't melt ;)

well had it checked by kwik fit of all people and they couldn't or wouldn't refill as there was a leak somewhere.. is this a costly thing to fix?

depends where the leak is, maybe a faulty pump etc hard to tell. You need to take it to a reputable service centre.
