Hi all,
This is my first thread so let's see if you can help me. I have an A4 2002 1.9tdi. The fuel guage has never worked, it changes from full to off scale when ignition switched on. Lately the temp guage became intermittant and has now packed in altogether. The diagnosis for the temp guage was a wiring fault and I was told when I bought the car that the dashboard would have to be changed to fix the fuel guage problem. Recently I've read that the dash is prone to dry joints/ loose connection problems and they can be fixed . does anyone have any ideas on this and has anyone taken the steering wheel off an audi with airbag on wheel?
Would be really gratefull for some help on this!
Thanks

Hi Hermit

Mine was the same temp gauge proved to be the sender unit in the outlet hose to rear of cyl. head, an easy job and only £23. The fuel gauge runs between half and full but the light still works. I reckon this may be the return spring on the gauge itself but I am reluctant to see. You can remove the instruments without removing the wheel but there is much to disturb behind there and I worry I could end up with a working gauge but a worse fault to replace it. Good luck

Thanks for info. I've ordered a temp sender ( now £ 28!)

Temp sensor sorted my gauge out mate.

However take it easy if youre going to do it yourself...mine was seriously stuck in and the retaining clip that holds the sensor in is a bit lame! Net result with me was broken clip with some left in there and lots of agro but it is in theory a really easy DIY job!

Good luck sorting it
