Audi 80 Water Thermostat

I have an Audi 80 1.9 tdi 1993 model. I am trying to locate the thermostat. The water temperature gauge is showing no appreciable rise in temperature.

It is under the water pump on the lower left (looking from inside the car) of the engine compartment. Sender and dash failure are common on these.

Thank you very much. I think that sender and dial are working as the unit registers some rise in temperature as the engine warms up.
