Hi

I've got a 2000 Tdi (110) with 95k (belt change 3000 miles ago) on the clock. Without costing the Earth and also breaking my Golf, can anyone recommend what they would do first to improve performance.

I currently get about 52 - 55 mpg out of it on my daily commute to work and would rather not ruin that too much, but a bit more torque would be nice.

Thanks

The most economical way of gaining more torque would be to fit a '10pin tuning box'.

You can achieve upto 30% more torque without loosing mpg.

I would purchase a 'used' box from a respected manufacturer. German or uk ebay will supply a good box for under £20.

There are many boxes on ebay that look like they have been 'homemade', as a rule i would avoid these.

Can you give me an example of one of these boxes? Would a search on Ebay for ' 10pin tuning box' suffice?

How exactly do they work?

The box connects in series between the VP37 fuel pump connector (middle of engine, just under the cover).

There are a couple of methods used, but essentially they make the car inject more fuel.

The boxes generally have one or more spindle potentiometers to allow the power to be turned up or down.

I would recommend something similar to one of these:

The description says Seat but it also says it will fit a VW.

That box is for the later PD engines, and will not fit a 90 or 110bhp VE engine.

It is also one of the cheaper sort, which generally contains just a single 1p resistor for altering the temp signal.
