i hav a 98` mk4 golf gti. every time i switch the ignition on the rear wiper goes about a dozen times. even tho it is switched off?! tho it works normaly wen i need it.. any1 else hav this problem or no wats going on?
A common fault that ocurrs is that the washer pipe that runs through the wiper spindle corrodes and snaps releasing water into the electronics that control the motor.
What can happen is you will get faults with the operation of the wiper and the tailgate lock below.
The pipe that runs through the spindle is only 3 to 4mm in diameter is made of brass and can split, you may still have a functioning washer but water could be escaping into the motor as well.
I'd remove the tailgate trim and have a good look to see if you have this problem as it could cost you a new tailgate lock as well if left unchecked.
If it isn't the wiper motor / water problem, then suspect a dodgy switch.
