Alright everyone. I'm hoping someone can help me. I've had a 1997 A4 1.8t for about 16 months now. There has been a clicking noise coming from the left side when on full left lock. In the space of a week it is now happening on full right lock as well. Can anyone shed some light on this problem.
Sounds like a pump clicking as it doesn't have enough liquid to pump through.
Also it's a fast clicking noise, maybe five or six clicks a second on full lock.

Any help greatly appreciated.
Cheers

sounds like your cv joints are knackered, change them asap or this is what happens

if a cv joint fails while you are driving at speed you can turn the car over or cause a lot of damage

hi i like wise have a silver 1997 b5 a4 1.8 t an have the same thing happening on my O/S. i have had a quote of £75 incl VAT for that done so not too expensive.

P.S if it is as above the CV joint then you should fine it will slow and disappear as yoy straighten the wheel but return each time its on lock!

P.P.S does yours squeak and grind on the rear-suspension or is it the handbrake?
cheers

Yeah it does slow as you straighten the wheel up, as for rear suspension I'm not quite sure what you mean.
Is this a general age related problem you think?
Funny you should say that because since I bought the car there have been a lot more rattles around the front and rear suspension. Especially noticed when going over the endless bloody speed bumps in and around Aberdeen!

And thanks Solorider for the info on the CV joint, getting that sorted out soon as.
