Sounds like a coil pack is on its way out.. these are £25 each, the 2.0 has 4 of them..
Best way to check is to get the car onto VAG-COM and find which cylinder is misfiring...
However if you dont have access and want to risk thinking its a coil pack to start with (thats if all lead and spark plugs are ok)_
Take out coil pack number 1, and insert the new coil pack in number one.. and go for a drive... if no different... replace the exisitng one and then try by putting the new one in cylinder number 2.. and so on to coil pack number 4... - once you have done this and "IF" its better in one postion leave it there...
I would then recoomend reaplcing the other 3 as they will be next to go... or its upto you..

depend on engine... may are on the top of the head... 4 RED square looking thing... (in simple terms) .. on your they may be back like the pic below..
its a case of just undoing the screws holding the leads in place... pull the coil pack out.. and insert new.. reconnect..

hi there...
im not totally clued up on your engine... its shows.... i would of thought you would of than 4 coils packs... but hey... who knows.... lol...
The fuel filters on some VAG cars is under the back seats... you can get to it by lifting a seat and then unscrewing a cap to get to it... how ever on yours im not sure..
i will do some digging for you..

so far i have found the following..
Camshaft Position Sensor (Hall Effect Sensor)-No Signal (G40) :
Check CMP, if OK, replace distributor.
&
Camshaft Position Sensor (Hall Effect Sensor) - Short to B+
(G40) : Check CMP, if OK, replace distributor.
&
Hall Sender works by creating a signal as the shaft of the dizzy spins. It feeds a signal back to the ECU telling it which cylinder is approaching the TDC position and the ECU then uses that information to trigger a host of actions at that moment in time.
Hall Sensors are usually quite reliable (hence the reason they were used) but we do know that they fail due to age (they start to physically break into pieces inside the dizzy). They can also be damaged by voltage spikes, a classic example being when someone takes all the spark plugs out and spins the engine without grounding the king lead from the coil (HT lead). A visual inspection might show physical damage inside the dizzy itself?
&
Hall sender is in the distributor: and oh yes, it would be the cause of your non-starting because the ECU thinks the camshaft/crankshaft is in a different position from where it actually is.
This means the spark is arriving at totally the wrong time. Throw a known good dizzy in and stand back as the engine starts: I think you'll faint when it starts running
&
The hall sensor is inside the distributor. When you get this DTC for the hall sensor short to B+, the distributor must be replaced.
If you have a read of these.... then if your still unsure... do a search in google for the error code followed by VW FAULT CODE

Hi everyone, I have the exact same problem with my partners Audi A4 1.6 saloon 1995.
I tried other forums for help but sadly it appears that unless you have the all dancing all singing VAG kit, they don't want to help.
Really nice to see so much help and advice given by RickT.
I will also do as you suggest Rick despite having slightly different code errors.
Mine are
00515 Camshaft position sensor -short to B+(G40) Check CMP, If ok replace distributor
00532 Supply Voltage (B+)
00670 Throttle Position sensor-G127
01247EV AP Canister Purge regulator valver - N80
01249 Cylinder 1-Injector Fault-N30
16486 Mass or volume air flow circuit-low input
16500 Engine coolant temperature circuit-range/performance problem 18010Power supply (B+) Terminal 30-Low Voltage
But from what you have already explained it now at least makes some sense to me lol
My regards
