Hello All

The window on my golf suddenly dropped in to the car door, while I was using the switch to lift it up. It dropped to about half way.:(

It now does not work and the only way to keep it up is to place my hands on either side of it, drag it up and wedge it against the door frame with paper!!!!

Any idea's what the problem could be?

Thanks in advance

Hi,
Could be that your window regulator has had it, one of the common problems with the mk4 golf! Found this web site may be of some use www.golfmk4.co.uk

yeah ive **** this brick before. whilst in the middle of liverpool. not ideal. i temporarily fixed it by going to asda and buying two door stops - the rubber ones for grip - and wedging them down the inside of the window. that held it securely. then i explored my options, the vw garage wanted not far off £200 to sort it. got on ebay and found a window regulator repair kit. it had everything you will need. it was about £30 i think. fitted it myself in about an hour or so (and im not by any means a mechanic). make sure befre you do though you find the forum that i found where some kind soul had posted a step by step tutorial on how to do it - pics and all. i wish i still had the link but i dont. if you look you will find it. good luck!

Hi. I had this trouble. Its a known fault with mk4 golfs and new beetles. Apparentely there is a plastic cog in the mechanism that isn't up to the job and it breaks. My window dropped right down into the door. VW charged me 150 quid to fix it even though its a known fault! hardly fair really. They could have just charged for the labour or something to meet me halfway but no! They replace the cog with a metal one. I'm waiting for one/all the others to go next!

hey simple fix that should be it happened on both my front windows, and both times a plastic clip had broken,vw sell a kit for 30 odd quid i think, and hopefully should only have to change the clip for a metal one.have a go its easy:biglaugh:

i had the exact same problem with mine, luckily i was at home when it happened, the window regulator kits that are on at the cars at the moment only have plastic clips that attach to the bottom of the window, therefore they break, (not the best idea veedubb have come up with) the new kit comes with metal clips and cost me 35 quid from veedub, its not too bad to fit door card off and metal panel, can be a little fiddly but defo a diy job!!! hour and a half tops

Excellent, thanks for all the replies, I was expecting the problem to be an expensive one, as most of them are with the golf.

Thanks Again
