Im interested in putting a dump valve on my 1999 golf gti turbo. This is my 1st turbo and i just want to know if the dump valve will affect my performance i.e. make it slower, or if not which dump valve is recommended to put on?
Any help will be greatly appreciated

A dump valve just releases turbo boost pressure to stop the pressure backing up on the turbo impellar and slowing it, the idea behind it being to minimise the time the turbo takes to spool or kick in when when you go back on the throttle after lifting off. You wont notice much difference really its all for show unless its fitted to something with a huge amount of power.
With regards to the type of dump valve they all do the same job, it just depends how loud you want the noise and what type of noise your looking for...

Your car has a diverter valve already, no need to turn it in a chav chariot with one that makes a silly noise.

I was looking at getting a dump valve on my 1.8T GTI but decided against it due to the whole chavvyness of the pssssst noise :(
Besides, it's quick enough as it is for me. I'll only wrap it around a tree if it accelerates any quicker :D
