Hi guys, wife and I are new to VW/Audi club and have just got an Audi TT, 225hp model of 2001 vintage, has done 76,000 mile and has full history but is using a lot of oil. There are no leaks so it is either engine or turbo, can anyone suggest which one is more likely, can a test be done to determin which? and what would be the approx cost of replacing the turbo for parts and labour. Any help and suggestions would be appreciated, cheers, SiCobra:Blush:

Hello, as a rule if you not really seeing any smoke yourself it cant be a bad oil burning situation... but if you are using oil it has to be going some where!!?
If you get white smoke on over run ie as you take your foot off the throttle and the engine is slowing down it is most likely the turbo, because the oil seals inside the turbo are letting oil back through into the manifold...but you can get the same due to valve stem oil seals! If the intake pipe after the turbo but before the throttle body has oil then its from the turbo not valve stems.
so its not an easy call At 70k with a good service history i still would be more inclined to go with turbo.
prices i have no idea what the costs are good luck!

Thanks Big Dal, not noticed any white smoke on over run but there is some dark smoke from the exhaust when revered hard at standstill almost as if was running very rich, which it's not, the exhausts are also very sooty at the tips, there are no leaks at all so it must be burning it. I will try and have a look at the inlet pipe for any oil evidence and let you know, thanks for the advice so far, cheers, SiCobra:beerchug:
