Hi,
Sorry...I bet peope are getting sick of me posting!
Still trying to solve the problem i'm having regarding the loss of boost on my GTi Turbo.
A friend mentioned to me that it may be the actuator???
I'm not mechanical...what is an actuator? From what I can tell, it has something to do with controlling the wastegate?
According to my friend, because i'm running a lot of boost...the standard actuator might not be upto it.
Any ideas???
Your help is appreciated as always.
Thanks

Hi,

sorry this is my first turbo'ed car but i think your right the actuator opens the wastegate.
if its not working properly id say it should put the car into a limp mode as the gate wouldnt open enough to let the boost stay at a level. so it would overboost
what PSI/ Bar are you running ? ive seen a VRS running 21 psi (standard 10 ) without a problem.

Hi pgarner.
Thanks for your response.
I've had a remap, and also an N75J valve fitted from a TT. This "should" be producing 205bhp running approx. 20psi.
However, it's only producing 170bhp running approx 14psi at the minute....so i'm just in the process of trying to figure out what the problem could be.
We've cleaned the throttle body, we've checked the air filter, I've had a new (forge) dump valve fitted, we've swapped the MAF, and we've replaced the N75J. Nothing we've done has made any difference, so i'm just trying to figure out what the heck it could be and a friend mentioned the possibility of it being my actuator?
Many thanks

Hi, was the remap done at a reputable place? is the programme any good for your car? if its a generic remap maybe the settings are not quite right?
also is your engine tired (high miler) or is it running tight?
might be worth getting it reset to standard and getting a dyno done to give you a bench mark power figure to compare against?

we've replaced the N75J.
Many thanks

have you swapped to another N75J valve or back to the standard C or F version. some people have experiance a problem with the J version that cause the ECU to enter limp mode
other than that i would say check all vac lines for a leak

Hi.
Thanks for your replies.
The remap was done at my house. Had it done at CC Tuning (http://www.cctuning.co.uk). A friend recommended him to me. The guy who did it (Chris Wells) said that he's done 100s of the 1.8 20v T engines and they all produce the same. 195bhp for the remap, and then 205bhp with the N75J fitted. It's just my look that I have problems with mine.
When we 'changed' the N75J valve, we put it back to the standard valve, and it certainly seemed flat and slower, so it would seem like it's doing it's job. But no, we haven't changed the N75J for another N75J.
For your info, my car has 74000 on the clock.
Regarding this limp mode, would I know it was running in limp mode it? i.e. would there be something come up on my display??? Not had any warnings or anything like that, and also had it checked and there are no fault codes come up or anything.
I've got it booked in at ChippedUK on saturday, so fingers crossed, there'll be able to give me some more info. I'm just worried incase they have problems diagnosing the problem.
Thanks again to all!
