Hi All,

I've been trying to revive my near 20 year old 2.3l, 20vCoupe Quattro for the last few months. Thought i'd cracked it and got everything sorted, until it failed it's MOT due to a leaking exhaust manifold.

Does anyone know where i can get a Cast Iron Manifold from. Tried the people at 4Ringspares but even they said this was a tall order as parts for these are getting rarer.

Anyone know anyone who is scrapping an old Coupe Quattro and could spare a part?

I'm at my wits end and about to give up as i'm all spent out.

Thanks

Raz

Hi

They only fitted the cast manifold on the later build cars (post march 1990). The earlier ones had a stainless steel tubular manifold which is said to be better. I would look out for one of those if I were in your shoes? If you do find one, there is a short 'extension' piece between the manifold and the cat, and the alloy heatshield is different, you need both parts to go with the manifold itself.
There is another lambda sensor mounting boss fitted to the manifold, so you could do a decat pipe easily if you wanted to?

Hi Scotty,

Cheers for the info.

I was told it was a cast iron manifold. It's difficult to know if me and the garage owner understood eachother as I'm an English man in Holland.

The car was apparently built in 1988 according to the data on the dutch web site and i'm sure the guys at 4Ringspares said i needed a Cast Iron manifold because of it's age.

I'm gonna have to double check. But thanks for bringing that to my attention.

4 rings seem to have their information backwards. If the age is correct, it should have a tubular manifold already? If it has, a weld repair should be able to cure it permanently. Even a cast iron one could probably be welded successfully.

The tubular manifold:

more info here, see also the VIN decoding info which should allow you to work out the age from the chassis no.

I have a spare cast manifold that I do not need, the exhaust was blowing badly on that car, I will have to check the manifold itself is ok before you get your hopes up..
