Hi I have recently bought an 2004 A4 Avant TDi 130 Sport multitronic and it has been a nightmare. First a gearbox judder which was repaired by replacing the lay shaft / clutch plates and now I am getting this droning sound under acceleration. After the car warms up it starts around 1400 revs to 1800 and less pronounced above the 2000 mark. The car has only done 40000 miles. New tyres have been fitted all round but it hasn't made a jot of difference. Any ideas what it could be would be much appreciated.

Thanks. Don't think its the wheel bearings. Whenever you take your foot of the accelerator for example going downhill it goes away and is very quiet.

mine was the same, noisy under power and it got worse and worse until it was no doubt it was the bearings. I had a merc before and the bearing went in that and again I only had the nois when putting my foot down, you back of the gas and the noise went, the noise in the Audi was far noiser than the merc.

Thanks again. I will certainly get the front bearings checked out. Any idea what it costs to replace them ?
