A3 2.0tdi head woes

:(had major breakdown on 04' 2.0 tdi 140ps S Line, started with bad starting and smoke etc..... took to main dealer,diagnosed head u/s, £2000.00 later sorted was wondering if anyone had come across the same problem as some say it is "common "others say "never heard of that happening" have footed bill as car is out of warrenty(had used car warranty but not covered for cracked heads check yours fine print etc..) contacted Audi uk but no response yet, also dealer (non franchised)has said they would pay some but not said how much yet
so if any one has had the same problem or had any feedback from audi uk i would like to hear apart from that loving car :biglaugh:

hi yes my head went 12000 miles on 20 tdi 04 plate audi said it was rare but hey would, i dont know only thing it was under warranty so i was lucky ,but i have to be honest i am always scared it will go again

It is a very common problem on the 2L 16v diesel, especially early BKD engines, they suffer porosity in the ports for the inlet valves and suffer cracks in the combustion chamber. Hopeful new castings have this sorted but don’t let them tell you it is unusual, it is not.
