Olla,

This is my first post here, hopefully I'll get a little more response here than on Audi-Sport, anyway ... my B6 Avant 2.0 FSI has been giving some grief as of lately, started off about 2 months ago where after a run the car wouldn't start up for about 10 minutes, it done this a few times .. then last month the car stalled whilst approaching a roundabout and wouldn't start again for another 10 minutes or so, so I got it booked in for a Service etc and a Fault had been reported with the NOx Sensor (Nitrogen Oxide), Audi wanted £700 to replace so I consoulted VAGPARTs who suppled me the part for £250+ and I replaced myself last night and cleared the fault codes with VAGCOM. Took the car out for a good run last night and all was well ...

BUT this morning driving to work the car stalled whilst driving (As though it run out of fuel) pulled in and I couldnt get it going again, Called Green Flag the Recovery guy said he couldn't here the fuel pump priming, and suspects a faulty pump or relay, towed it home and it fired up straight away

The Car is a 2003, with 69k on the Clock, Water pump, cambet etc changed within 1000 miles ago

Has anybody experienced similar issues and found a succesful resolution without torching the car LOL

Cheers Guys/Gals

Chris

ooo oo ... manage to break down whilst stationary last night ;)

basically held the revs at 5k in neutral and the car cut out, ran VAGCOM and got this

1 Fault Found:
16706 - Engine Speed Sensor (G28): No Signal
P0322 - 004 - No Signal/Communication

http://wiki.ross-tech.com/index.php/16706/P0322/000802

hopefully I'm onto a winner :biglaugh:

So if it IS your speed sensor you would have spent £250 for nothing? or even worse £700 + if you went to the dealers!!!

I had a similar problem although not as severe as yours, mine occasionaly cut out when slowing down but would restart after a couple of goes. Mine was the temp sender sensor £30 part.

well the NOx Sensor was faulty;

4 Faults Found:
17440 - Sensor for Nox (G295): Signal too High
P1032 - 001 - Upper Limit Exceeded
17440 - Sensor for Nox (G295): Signal too High
P1032 - 001 - Upper Limit Exceeded
16706 - Engine Speed Sensor (G28): No Signal
P0322 - 004 - No Signal/Communication - Intermittent
16705 - Engine Speed Sensor (G28): Implausible Signal
P0321 - 008 - Implausible Signal - Intermittent

And the Engine speed sensor is the only fault I have now, done several tests this evening, car stalled, run vagcom, received fault, cleared fault, run vagcom again (no faults found), tried starting (didnt start), run vagcom and fault reappaered. I did this a few times and everytime I'm getting;

16706 - Engine Speed Sensor (G28): No Signal
P0322 - 004 - No Signal/Communication

just need to source one now, will try Vagparts first thing .. has anyone changed a Speed sensor before?

good luck mate, change that and i reckon you'll be fine, no idea about the actual sensor itself though

Hello Mate,

Try this? I found it on another site:-

I was having problems starting my car for quite some time. It would crank and crank, but never start. I tried just about everything in the book - spark plugs, injectors, fuel filter, etc. Finally, after one hard start the vehicle turned on and my EPC light was lit. I scanned for codes and got the messaged displayed above. I searched around the message boards and found that it was due to a bad engine speed sensor.

For some models this sensor is located on the transmission, but since I had just done the Southbend OFE SS Clutch Install I knew that mine was not located on the trans. I found that the part number I needed (dealer only) was 078-906-433-A. As usual, the hardest part about these sensor installs is just finding the sensor. I figured I would save you the trouble and show you how it's done here.

SUPPLIES - The only thing you need is a hex head bit and the speed sensor

In order to access the engine speed sensor you need to remove the coolant reservoir. This has been shown previously in the Oil Change writeup. You simply remove the one screw shown to the left, and pull up on the reservoir.

Lift it out of the way to the right so you can access the speed sensor connector.

The speed sensor plug should be the Grey one. There will also be a yellow and green plugs.

After the cooolant reservoir is out of the way, you can disconnect the speed sensor at the third connection circled to the left.

You will want to follow this wire around to see how it is run. You will find that it takes a crazy path to the sensor which is actually located next to the oil filter. There will be multiple zip ties that you will have to cut along the way.

After the coolant tank is out of the way, you have to get under the car and remove the plastic covers at the bottom. I am sure you have probably done this before.

With the belly pan removed, you will have to look back at the oil filter (from just in front of the driver's side wheel) and you will see the sensor. It is held on by a single 10mm hex head bolt. I got to it with a single extension and a single swivel on my 3/8' wratchet

After removing the single bolt, you can simply pull back on the sensor (with a little force) to remove it from the engine. There is a small O-ring which makes it a snug fit.

Installation is the same in reverse. At the end, open your VAG-Com and clear the code. Hopefully it will never come back.....good luck

I will be attempting to change mine at the weekend but have add a quick look. It seems simple enough but access to it is very restricted and you will need "Bendy Fingers and hands" to reach it.

Let me know how you go on.

Regards

Paul C

For those wanting to do this themselves I recommend they remove the Oil Filter, makes life a lot more easier :beerchug:
