Evening All

I've just returned from having gone round several tyre shops trying to find someone who will do the tracking on my Passat.

Nearly every one that I went to came out with a different excuse. Are they that bad to do that no-one will touch them. One said that the ends had ceased, but I went to my mechanic and he said they were fine and by looking at them, he could tell no one had even bothered to check if they were solid.

Questions are, are they difficult to do, are they expensive, and whats a common excuse line to watch out for when you ask them to do it. With plenty Passat's on the road, someone out there can do it without the first words out the mouth being "er, well".

I thought I had a tracking problem about a year ago - local vw franchise wanted £300 to do it. Located a Quick Fit branch with the correct kit to do it in Altrincham - they wanted £150. On checking it they found the tracking to be within tolerance so no charge made. Eventually figured uneven tyre wear was down to incorrect tyre pressures (slow leak).

ATS & others would not touch Passat tracking for fear of snapping off some steering bits which apparently often suffer from being seized.

Hope this helps.

My local 4 wheel alignment centre charges £40. That's all they do, and it looked as easy as any other car. Where are you? Jeff Fowkes in Leicestershire is good too.

Is there a tracking issue with these cars , my tdi is pulling to the left i've had it tracked but it didn't resolve it , but the guy who did it didn't seem to have any qualms in taking the job on, perhaps this is why it still pulling to one side, is it a specialist job?
