Engine Oil

Right i've been trawling through the forums for last few days but am getting even more confused.

Basically i have just bought a 1.9 tdi sport 130 6speed manual 53reg

I believe i am on variable intervals (the long-life inspection) , and the last service was at 94k, and the oil along with other things were changed. The cars done about 99k now nxt service is due at 102,000 - just checked the dipstick and the engine oil is a bit, i want to top it up but am really confused as what to use.

Just purchased Castrol Edge 5w-30 it vw504 00 - the service book says i should use vw 506,00/01 am really confused as what to do, or even if i should top up the oil at all.


Also the cars got 18" RS4 wheels, any1 know what the tire pressure for them is.

hi, i bought a similar model to yours last month and the dealer is an audi specialist.he advised me to use the proper long life oil until i get it serviced next time and as i'm planning to go on to shorter interval servicing i will switch to a more readily available oil-though i'm not sure which will be best yet-that's why i joined this forum!

well i just poped in my local dealer and he gave me the mobil 1 5w-30 - as i am on the variable intervals. Also he said that the tyres i had were wrong, my a4 should 235mm not the 225mm i got on atm, wonder if it makes a huge diffrence cause to be honest i think the car grips quite well.

The oil you must use for a variable is the 506.01. The .01 is for the PD engine, which as a 130 yours will be. 505.01 is for fixed which I use. It's personal choice, but as I've said before on this forum, I prefer regular checks under the bonnet. I do short miles too so I just stick with a 6 monthly oil drain and 12 monthly filters. If you use those oils you will be fine.

506.01 tends to be 5w30 and 505.01 5w40. I use Millers XFE-PD and very good oil. There are plenty out there but some not as ready available.

I believe 235 is the standard width for the A4 but I can't see a problem with 225. I'm sure others have that width. I'm getting some 17" with 235/45 as these are the standard Audi alloy and fitment.

I "think", and I stand to be corrected, but Im sure that the Cabriolets had 225's instead of 235's :confused:
