I've got a '04 plate A4, 1.8T with a tiptronic gearbox, the last few days the it has taken several attempts to get it to go into reverse, and the gearbox display is flashing indicating a fault and that it's in back up mode. All the other gears work fine and it isn't making any strange noises or anything, it's only got 28k on the clock so hopefully it shouldn't be that the gearbox has gone.
Has anyone got any advice and can suggest a good place in Kent or S.E. London to take it to get it looked at, as I can't really afford to take it to Audi to get it looked at, and I know there will be a few unscrupulous places out there that will try and con me into a new gearbox. Thanks.:D

I'd take the car to a decent indy and get them to check for fault codes. If you ask nicely they may not charge.

i have same fault with my a4 at the moment which i tryed to rectyfy already, went to a dealer checked the car on examiner the error code is F-125 Multi-function switch,Implausible signal. Dealer told me i should replace the printed circuit first and if it does not rectify the problem then replace the ecu or g/box. Got the printed circuit replaced today..didn`t help the fault is still there. Guys in the garage said that i more and likely will have to replace the g/box!!!!and the ecu replacement might not help and it will be a waist of money...By the way new g/box is 4500 the ecu is about 800 + labour.........
Don`t now what to do now????

Hi!

You both need to check out the posts on here regarding this gearbox (and on A6 board).

It's not fun if it is the same as all the other owners problems.

My particular story is well documented - and it's still not over 8 months later.
