3 weeks ago I bought Audi A4 1.8T Nov 2001 from an Audi Dealership... It has started to give me problems already and I really doubt whether the dealership has done all the checks they boast about on their website. The problems I had, which are apparently now fixed:

1. The engine would, occasionally, sound like diesel car. The noise will come and go. When I took it to Audi, Watford (this is where I bought from), they said that I would need to leave the car with them as it is some unit behind the timing belt section that is faulty and I may breakdown anywhere if not fixed.

2. The windscreen spray had a horrible stench to it.

3. The brake make squeaky noise when I apply it.

Solution from Audi: They have fixed the 1st and 2nd problem and said that I should not worry too much about the brakes as it is not the pads but the brake pedal that makes the noise. I am not convinced though.

This evening when coming back from work the Engine management light came on. When I called the dealership, the guy behaved as if he would doing me a favor by looking into it.

I need some help here.

First I need to understand if, based on the above, I need to do something, not sure what that is, may be get it checked at another dealership, I am open to suggestions.

Second, is there a way I can register a complaint about all this, I dont know what one should do when such poor levels of service is received. I have had no problems buying privately but I went to the dealership as you cannot be lucky all the time buying privately and buying from dealership would give me the peace of mind.

I travel a lot and in the last 3 weeks of buying the car it has already given me so many major problems. It has wasted so much of my time.

If anyone thinks that I worrying for no reason, then please do let me know.

Thanks

Hi and Welcome to the forum,

First of all, in regards to the engine Management light..

This can be trigged due to a number of reasons, anything from a misfire to a coolant temp sensor..

As discussed via MSN, without having access to VAG-COM and reading the fault code your hands are tied.. I would suggest going back to the dealer and requesting there assess the issue providing you in writing a copy of the error codes which were logged for your reference.

As above, i would return to the dealer and express your concerns over the car you have purchased from them.

Give them another chance to resolve the issue before moving to another dealership.. ensure you get them to document all work which has been carried out.

I always find a quick chat to workshop manager always helps. I ring ahead and tell them that i wish to be put though to w/shop manager and then when eventually get through to them, i ask for a private one to one meeting to discuss issues. Seems to work for me. usually good for an apology at the least. i try to get on first name terms with all w/shop managers i need and then book my service etc through them and not service reception. generally next day service.

Your car is similar age & model to mine. I had no problems until quite recently (a year after buying privately). I had my peace of mind by doing a full RAC inspection before purchase as i do with all my cars as i have no idea of signs to look for for repairs etc etc.

Anyhow, it seems, with me anyway, that all problems come at once, i have been so close to getting rid but stuck by it, i love it and the spec too much to let it go! I have managed to rectify all the problems and am now even spending £ on cosmetics. Generaly expensive to run, but worth it. Stick by it would be my advice :approve:

I would advise you get your dealership to carry out the recall that is out for this car that deals with the blocked drainage pipes. Your plenum chamber will fill up with water and leak into the footwells causing mayhem if this should occur. I got mine done recently through info on this forum. totally free as it's a recall, check if yours has been done.
