Hi,

I've got some problems with my car: Audi A4, B6, engine code AVF (PD-TDI, 1.9/96kW)

A week ago while driving a yellow oil signal appeared in top part of the dashboard screen (where OK while text appears) with text "SENSOR" next to it.
When I got home I've checked the oil level and it was ok, but the symbol was there constantly. Next drive i've got big red oil sign with text oli pressure bellow it (the yellow signal was still there).
I've stopped and checked oil level and it was good (no engine trouble or other symptoms at all). Next day the car was at the VW dealer for diagnostics (no Audi dealer in my town but engine is the same, and I was afraid of the oil pump failure)
They where certain that the oil level/temperature sender failed and in need of replacing. I've got my hands on another sensor (used for testing at the other shop) but after replacing it the yellow symbol was still on the dashboard. We've tried all sorts of things but the symbol went away only after some driving, and hadn't reappeared since.
But the red symbol "oil pressure" still appears when engine goes over 1500 RPM (or more when stationary). Pressure was checked and is between 1.6 bar (idle, warm engine) and 6 bar (near full throttle) - the oil pressure sensor was changed 3 times, and wiring is good.

Question is: could the oil temperature/level sender be also responsible for a red oil pressure symbol (and the one i have now is also bad), or the only possible reason for the red symbol is oil pressure switch/sender and my dashboard is bad???

Any help will be appreciated!!!
Thanks in advance!

The light will have to be cleared by someone with VAG-COM

The light will have to be cleared by someone with VAG-COM

That will be problem as no error is reported in diagnostics (the only reported error was that the sensor g266 was disconnected or is connected to +) Just to clarify yellow warning with text "sensor" hasn't reappeared since the sensor has been replaced. Big red oil pressure warning appears depending on engine RPM (if i go over 1500RPM while driving the warning appears but when i let the rpm to drop the warning disappears - third time i do that and the pressure warning remains on display and i need to switch engine off/on to go back to normal) No other problems can be detected (no smoke, high temps, noises or other problems that can be connected with oil pressure). So the question is what triggers the red oil pressure warning (not oil pressure switch) and why does it happen above some RPM...

P.S.
Does disconnecting the battery clears errors from memory? - thus no VAG-COM needed?

Hi A fault such as yours can not be cleared with Vag -Com.I would remove the battery terminal for 30secs.If that does not clear the fault it would then suggest a fault with the dash panel.

Removing battery doesn't help. That could be the issue with dash panel, but I'm wondering maybe the replaced sensor is not exactly the same as the original one. It seems that the original sensor is marked as 1J0 907 660 B (at least the service man that replaced sensor says it is) but it seems to me that my number (according to ETKA and my VIN) should be 1J0 907 660 C. I could try replacing the sensor again, but the big question is does the sensor of oil level/temperature could have something to do with the warning (it would be very strange to me that the sensor malfunctioned together with the dash panel at the same time)

Been looking at the wiring diagram and the only thing the pressure switch and the oil level temp sensor have common is the dash panel. Are you sure you have the correct OIL PRESSURE SWITCH.

You are right. But the switch has been changed 3 times, also disconnected and even connected to the ground to check for difference (no difference at all). I even removed dash panel to see if wiring between dashboard and oil pressure switch is good - and it is. It would also be strange that both sensors fail at the same time. I'm asking whether changing oil temp/level sensor (again) could resolve the issue because of information from http://www.vaglinks.com/Docs/VW/Misc/VW_Service_Interval_Extension_SelfStudyGuide_224.p df
where it says that the K3 "warning lamp for oil pressure" has some to do with the information from G266 oil temp/level sensor.
Thanks allot for the effort!!

(I'm asking whether changing oil temp/level sensor (again) could resolve the issue because of information from).Only one way to find that out, and at the same time make sure you get the right part according to the VIN there is a differance in the two temp sensors

I'll keep my fingers crossed for the sender (it's allot cheaper than the dashboard).
Sometime next week I'll go to the dealer to have it checked out. I'll post the results after that.
Thanks once more!

Strangest thing...
Without any reason 3 days ago the oil pressure warning stopped appearing, and everything is back to normal. I can only imagine that the warning was memorized and needed to be cleared either by some not so obvious method, or by distance traveled or some other way...
I hope it lasts!

Does the bonnet open warning symbol appear on the dash when the bonnet is open?

Does the bonnet open warning symbol appear on the dash when the bonnet is open?

Yes, it does. I've read in the document mentioned above that the bonnet open/close delays oil level warning for next 100km, and that did not make any difference in my case (oil level warning newer appeared, just oil level/temperature sensor failure + oil pressure warning)
