Dear all:

Hi, just recently got my new mk5 golf which got auto wipers with it, never use it until today, the rain starts and I just flick it to the auto position, everything works fine and I didn't flick it to off position when I finish the journey. Now the problem comes, when I start my return journey to home, the wipers wouldn't start working until I have to put it to off and back to auto again! Is that normal?:1zhelp:

yes, perfectly normal, nothing wrong at all, don't worry.
i believe it gives you the option of just having it on intermittant, though don't quote me,but yes, you have to switch off and back on to get the rain sensitive feature.

I don't think this is normal. I have the auto wipers and I permanently leave mine in the auto possition. Whenever it rains they always come on.

Does this happens to your car as well?

What year is your car? Will there be two version of software that power the wipers?

My car is a 2007 GT Sport Golf. Don't know if there are different version's of software.

What might be worth trying is instead of swithing the whiper off and then back to auto, is alter the sensitivity of the auto wipers up one notch when they do not clear.

I have sometimes found that if it is raining when I get in the car, the water on the screen can fool the sensor into thinking that it is not raining. This is normaly retified when the car is moving, but if not I move the sensitivity swith up one notch and then back to the original position.

Hope this helps.

Anthony

I think what you are saying is correct, as I have had to do that sometimes.

from the off position, one click upwards sets them to intermittant and auto if fitted. the little lever on the top of the stalk is if auto is fitted it increases or reduces the sensitivity of the rain sensor, if auto is not fitted it increases or decreases the time between the intermittant swipe.

up a second click is permanantly on slow, a 3rd click is permanant fast.

if you leave your wipers on the 1st, 2nd or 3rd setting, your rear wiper will swipe when you engage reverse.

if you turn the ignition off but leave the key in and press down once, then the wipers will go to the service setting so you can lift them off the screen to change blades etc.

the rain sensor is always on and doesn't time out.
