Try to find out when the next cam belt change is due if it's soon it's a good bargaining tool.

Cambelt needs to be replaced every 80k, so make sure it did actually get changed @ 80k.

And dont forget the water pump!

I bought mine a few months ago and had the cambelt done even though it was not due for another 15k and also had the water pump changed as well as these also fail and it is the same proceedure to access both parts.

I prefer to think the cam belt change interval is more like 60k or 4 years whichever comes first. If you leave it longer, you're playing with fire. There is no warning of cam belt failiure, it fails, end of.

Cambelt change is indeed every 60k or 4 years.

You'll want the serpentine belt changed at the same time as well as the water pump.

I have an Audi A4 2001 1.9tdi 130bhp sport 75k miles

The car performs well, great mpg, no unusual engine noises or smoke.

Since the car was MOT'd last month, it has developed a problem.

The car still performs well, all as above except when you rev the engine to around 2500-3000 rpm and release the throttle. On the overrun, there is a stuttering noise coming from the airbox area.

On investigation, removing the air box and leaving only the air intake hose connected to the turbo; the sound is obviously more pronounced but sounds like a valve failing to close fast enough.

I don't believe it is the turbo as the car performs well and returns 50+mpg but the sound is irritating. The garage that MOT'd the car said the noise was there prior to the MOT.

Can anyone help?
