a4 noise

i have a 2002 a4 18t avant quattro
its got a noise like shells going ?the noise is quiet and wen pulling away and driveing like clatters not loud when its not in gear and i rev it theres no noise when i decelarate theres no noise nor in reverse when radios on i cant hear it but i know its there any ideas

it sounds like its comein fron the left wheel or there abouts i cant record it its not loud enough but its like the big ends goin but unlike them it doesnt increse in volume when more revs are applied its a kind of clatter all arms etc are ok cv joint looks ok

Its really hard to understand without the actual noise.

1. Is it only when you are moving?

2. Can you only hear it when its in gear and moving or not moving?

3. Is it a tinny kind of clatter?

4. Is it a kind of anvil type clatter?

If you had a digital dictaphone you could record it and post it would be really helpful. Where are you by the way?:Blush:

only when in gear moveing when coasting no noise minute i take foot off pedel noise stops

Ok I think its gearbox related......

1. is it a manual or an auto?

2. Whats your miles?

3. 5 speed or 6 speed?

4. Quattro or non Quattro

im gona change pads an discs later as last owner used non gen and there crap so gona strip cv down then its got to be gearbox if non of them just been bk out in it and only makes noise when i put foot down
when im rolling in gear with no revs no noise
